For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I'm hoping that the break in week 4, for the weekend will help. Sometimes I think we parents read and over analyze! I know I have been..lol

Comment by Rtarbaby/son/12/167 on April 3, 2013 at 3:21pm: Happy 3-5 167/68. All important beginning of the 4th week tomorrow. It is going to be a long seven days. I have been including extra encouragement the last few letters, meaningful quotes, and funny stories to help ease his thoughts a bit. I think I am more concerned with the 4th week than he is.

Comment by Rtarbaby/son/12/167 on April 2, 2013 at 10:40pm: msandi-My wife was a mess for the first 2 weeks. He arrived RTC 3/4, got his box 3/8, and the form letter 3/11. It helped that she could start sending letters so soon after he left. It has become a little easier the last week or so, she knows she gets a letter on Thursday, and then just has to play the phone lottery to see if she gets a call on the weekend. Nothing this past weekend, but this weekend is another shot at the lottery. I hope all the SR's are doing well and everyone gets to hear his/her voice sometime this weekend.

Comment by Melissa (14/175) on April 2, 2013 at 9:35pm: If you move before the official 'ok' from the Navy they might not reimburse you for moving expenses. Plus think about cost of living where you currently are VS GL. Would your BAH change and if so when?

There are a lot of things to consider.. talk to your husband and do what is right for the both of you.
