For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by diannep on April 1, 2013 at 11:43am: Rose: There is a 3rd option on picking up the photos after PIR. Instead of waiting in the long line, return to RTC later in the day when most have left to pay for the pictures. Check their hours before you leave base after PIR. We had a dad post this once...worked well for them. He said when they returned in late afternoon, there was no one in line.

JakobMom: The "top leader"(Recruit Chief Petty Officer) of the division gets to carry the sword during PIR. It is quite cool for them. Here is a link that explains each of the bootcamp leadership positions. I found it funny that they take these swords from the RCPOs before they call Liberty! A good thing...no one needs to get hurt! :-)

Called the NEX Photo Lab to inquire about sending a check (money order/bank check) payable to the photo lab to my SR to pay for his photos/keel/DVD when available and was told they don't accept checks. Only options were for my son to pay with his debit/credit card or cash (my son don't have that large sum of money ($174) with him nor does he have his debit card). The other option is to stand in the LONG line after PIR to pick up the photos which I understand is horrible. Can any one of you at N4M especially the veterans confirm this? I can't believe the photo lab won't accept a money order or bank check payable to them for an order. :(

Pay will be deposted on the 1st and 15th of the month. If with Navy Fed, it usually comes in a day earlier. Hoping that pay for you all is in there by tomorrow!
