~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

proudmamma, I got mine at Walgreens their store brand. If you scratch off the PIN and write down the 800 number at tbe bottom of the card you can recharge it in store or online.

Angie yes the calling cards were from the site.  :( He handed a few out and only had 3 left. So hopefully the others worked. I am now looking for calling cards to buy and send out. most I have seen can't be used from pay phones. Whats up with this? Any suggestions on where I should go?

Comment by marla.rae on March 31, 2013 at 3:12pm

I gave my daughter 8 phone cards from callforrecruits, but she was afraid they might not work, so she bought a phone card. I assume she got it at the NEX.

Comment by diannep on March 31, 2013 at 2:40pm

proudmama:  Oh, that is so sad about his calls.  So sorry!  Hope he can get it straight next time...maybe with a new phone card from the NEX.

We advise you all to stop writing a week before PIR.  Yes, the mail is supposedly forwarded to them at A School, but we all know how that goes.  You can make copies of the letters you write and take them with you to PIR if you want to write within one week of PIR...just in case they didn't arrive.

About the phone cards I purchased a AT&T card at Walmart and wrote down all the numbers then check his minutes online and I just add to it when they run low. If you live in certain states the calls can use a lot of minutes. Here in FL it's 5min for every 1min of use and they charge minutes just to use a pay phone.

Lala our family has a house in NC mountains it is a pretty place. We are located in the tri-state area our property borders GA/TN. Your welcome! They are very attractive and I will be ordering some things for my SR's scrapbook.

tahnks so much msandi, i appreciate the ribbon and tote bag order :)

Comment by missG on March 31, 2013 at 1:22pm

sorry, proudmomma, to hear about the phone cards. I thought they were good for 20 minutes, but my SR(12/167) said also that the pay phone automatically charges $2.00 per call. I wonder if that is why they run out so quickly : (. I sent  a regular 600 minute card out last week though, and hope it will be there soon.

As far as sending mail I figure I will probably stop sending the Tuesday before PIR.  I figure mail takes 3 to 4 days from CA. ---when my SR sends mail out Mondays, I get it Thursdays
