Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I do believe that all things happen for a reason and I know there must be something wonderful in store for him in his future. I am sure that he has learned many lessons during this experience that will help him in whatever he decides to do in the future. Please let us know how he is doing {{{{{NMH}}}}}

Comment by Craig on March 27, 2013 at 9:47am: Jacob's - Per your question about the CAC card reader. It is an outstanding graduation gift, however, they are actually going through a change right now and are updating the encryption method. So the current CAC readers being sold in the civilian community won't work.

For those that don't know, a CAC card reader allows sailors to access personal information (medical records, personnel records, advancement info...ect). By hooking up a CAC card reader to your computer, then using your CAC card (ID card), then the system knows, that in fact, they are talking to the sailor. It's a great gift, but not now...

It is sad that the Navy didn't let him get better and continue on with boot camp. I am truly sorry for everything that he is going through and that you as a family are going through. This would be so heartbreaking to hear. I pray that he recovers quickly and that the Navy will allow him to come back in the future - if that is what your son wants.
