Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by Melissa (14/175) on March 25, 2013 at 5:28pm: Lala- Thankfully my husband was there for my 8 week and 12 week appointments. The doctors office was generous enough to do ultrasounds at both appointments. Soon i will have my 16 week appt and the monday before PIR i will have my 20 week appt. From what i understand, my Dr office will do a 20 week ultrasound. Hopefull i can bring those pics to him for Graduation.

He also has his A school at GL for 14 weeks, so hopefully i can come visit during the weekends. - GL is only 4 hours from where we live.

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on March 25, 2013 at 4:52pm: Melissa, there are places that do 3-D ultrasounds now for less than $100. My daughter and her hubby had one done in VA Beach. There is a place in the Great Lakes area that also does them. I know I suggested this to a new mom to be from one of the facebook groups. She was able to schedule one for the later afternoon on PIR day to surprise her hubby. He missed getting to hear the baby's heartbeat for the first time because he was already at book camp. So that might be a great present for your hubby on PIR day :) You would just have to tell them you don't want to know the gender of the baby ")

I'm not an expert, but I pulled up information about the Recruit Petty Officer Positions on Boot Camp for Moms. It explains a lot. My daughter was chosen for a Section Leader, so I did a little research. Have a great day!

I just pray for her happiness, who am I to say who and when she should get married. I have 2 married daughters and learned a long time ago to keep my opinions to myself, lol. I'm sure everything will work out, but i am such a 'planner' that it is hard for me to not know. I try not to think too much about it since there is nothing i can do to change anything!
