~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

VsMom:  If your sailor just wants to hang out at the hotel until returning to RTC that night, then you probably wouldn't need a car.  You will have until 8 or 9 pm with your sailor on Friday....he will be bussed to the airport in the wee hours of Saturday.  Sarge can take you there to meet him and wait until his plane departs.  Make sure to take ID for the airlines gate pass.

We paid $35/day for our SUV when there and had it for 2 days...but if you are more comfortable going with Sarge, it is worth the extra money!

VsMomCB,  My son told me this week when he called that he will be headed to Florida for his A school on Saturday after PIR.

how much time will we have with sailors on Friday & Saturday? Mine is going to a school in Florida

Comment by VsMomCB on March 28, 2014 at 8:46pm

diannep, he said its per group which is a good deal.  can you think of any other reason we need a car?  I'm thinking with Sarge, no worries about getting lost, not having to return rental before flight, no tolls, etc

Corey'sMom:  The "shuttle" services we mention, which are Sarge's and the local taxi service, are actually taxis that operate as shuttles for PIR morning.  They then revert back to taxis, with taxi rates...which are not so cheap if you do alot of driving.

I agree with J'sMom.  Residence Inn is one of those that has studios and 2 bedroom suites, with living room area and full kitchens.  Some of the sailors are so very tired that they just want to relax...others, like my son, wanted to just drive around and see the area.  We even ended up in a school pickup line by accident!  I delighted in the fact that both of my sons (23/25 at the time) were totally embarrassed that I couldn't get out of it right away...I mean, payback for their childhoods is so sweet, isn't it?  :-)

VsMom:  Did Sarge mention anything about sharing for those who can...making it cheaper?  Meaning .... that $99 rate is per carload to and from OHare?  I know your family can't share because of the wheelchair....but want to make sure to pass on the proper info to everyone.  He had told me a while back that he charges by the taxi, so if 2 or 3 families shared a cab, made it cheaper.
