~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Here's what I got from Sarge earlier today. The round-trip from O'Hare to the Navy Lodge is $99 which will include a free ride to the PIR from Midway it is 159 round-trip including a ride to the PIR after graduation the rate is a metered rate. hope this helps.
We have made our hotel reservation & flight arrangements. We are staying at the Country Inn & Suites in Gurnee (using my points to help offset costs). My biggest issue is whether to rent a car (actually a minivan due to amount of people) OR trust in shuttle services. My only issue is.... if we use shuttle services (which I like because I like the idea of NOT having to "find" my way around), how can we do anything else? I don't want to held hostage at the hotel. I have contacted Sarge to see what kind of rates & services he offers. Have any of you spoken to him (Sarge) about this issue?
Another great tip from Diannep! I'll reach out to Sarge about his pick up rates from/to airport before I decide about Navy Lodge (I do want to stay there for the experience as well) . We're a family of 4 with one in a wheelchair so sharing is most likely not an option.
Thanks again.
VsMom: If you really don't want to rent a car, the most economical way as ellen said, you can "group up" with others on this group if flying in at the same time and share Sarge's cab...saves each of you money that way. We rented a car and never regretted that....gave us freedom to do as we pleased. Even with that, we took the shuttle to PIR...only $3/pp each way....and we didn't have to worry about traffic, etc.
I hope those staying at Navy Lodge continue with their plans. We have heard great things in the past from those who have stayed there, and like ellen said, Sarge's shuttle service will be happy to take you to PIR. Since Sarge is not connected to Navy Lodge, they cannot advertise his service.
So please consider keeping your plans. His shuttle fee is $3/pp each way, unless he picks you up from the airport and takes you to GL...in that case, I believe he takes you to PIR for free.
thanks ellen!
i think i'm going to have to start writing letters everyday, it sounds like he isn't having the easiest time at BC..
Navywife02162014, You can send a phone card, and they do have a way to buy one, but it is always good to send them one. If you send one just make sure it is activated before you send it, and make sure it will work with a pay phone.
VsMom, You don't have to drive to PIR. Sarge runs a taxi service that takes many from their hotel to PIR, and a call to him for a ride is a done deal.
Sammie, Mail call is everyday Mon-Fri, so send mail everyday if you can.
Phone calls are random and can come on any day Mon-Sun between 8am and 8pm Chicago time, but usually not on Fri and Sun between 8am and 1pm because of the PIR for others on Friday, and church on Sunday.
No you do not have to write the address in all caps, that isn't an issue.
