OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I just got my form letter and my SR is ship 14 division 182.

My son is also Ship 14 Div 181...nice to meet you. Got the letter today. Going to mail the first letters out in the morning. This group is for my youngest son. I have two boys and my oldest left for GL boot camp last April. He is still in GL however will leave for is C school assignment a week before this PIR date. I feel a lot more comfortable having already been through this and knowing a bit of what to expect. But kids are different, my oldest was in his 20's and had lived on his own, my youngest is 19 and never been away from home so I can't help but be worried for him and what he is going through but I know he will rise to whatever he is called upon for. I look forward to getting to know you parents and possibly meeting at PIR.

...right, ellen....all that matters is that the person please wears underwear!  :-)

Comment by ellen0502 on March 21, 2013 at 11:05pm

mom0717, Trust me no question is silly here, ok there are a couple that might be.

Don't ask what color underwear you should wear to PIR, seriously I don't think anyone here cares, nor wants to know, and if you say it's because you can see through the slacks you are wearing to PIR...GO BUY NEW SLACKS!!!
