For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by Coach Shelia on March 19, 2013 at 7:46pm: Just received "the box" and I finally cried...I have been numb since he left for MEPS. Recruiter told us we could go to final swear in ceremony, but we somehow missundersood time. It wasn't 630pm on tues 3/12, it was 0630 on wed 3/13 and we couldn't attend. So had to say goodbye to him at recruiter office. I can't wait for form letter, but joined this group anyway based on calculating 8 weeks. He will turn 20 day after PIR. I can't wait to celebrate!

I am another one of those moms who helps out here on this site.

My son graduated BC just a little over a year ago, stayed in GL for A School (ET), and is now in San Diego at C School. He is currently on hold there waiting to start his third C School class next week. When he comps out of this last class he is off to Japan, and is assigned to one of the amphibious ships in the fleet.

Looking forward to chatting with all of you, and ready to help out where I can.

The "kid in the box" is delivered FedEx, and the form letter usually follows soon after. Don't panic if it doesn't arrive quickly though as the form letter can take up to three weeks to receive.
