Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

hi- the 21st my birthday- will be two weeks- I'm checking with her boyfriend to be safe- but I don't think she'd send it anywhere but home.  I am worried due to the password- knowing my daughter it's be something weird and off the wall- guess we'll just keep waiting...

Receipt of form letters can take anywhere from a few days after they depart to about 2 weeks.  They can only send out one form letter, so if you have not received it by 2 weeks, think if there is anyone else your SR could have mailed it to?  It is important to have the password that is in the letter to download your RTC gate pass shortly before PIR.

I see it is snowing again in GL from the weather widget above!

Welcome to the group, ssbeach and Liz'smom!  So glad you found it so fast!  I am one of the N4Moms veterans on here, along with FTLW, Lala, ellen, and Betsy, to help you through this experience.  So....stay tuned!  Post any questions you may have.  We will be posting info on here as bootcamp goes along.

Welcome!

My son arrived at the Great Lakes on, 3/12/2013.  I received his form letter and his box yesterday (3/18/13).  He is Ship 12 DIV 177 and his PIR is scheduled for 5/10/13.  He will move on to the Nuke Power School in Charleston, SC after that.  I can't wait for May!!!

Hi All- My daughter arrived at bc on 3/7.  I originally thought she would PIR on 5/3. but I called her recruiter and found out she is ship 14 division 179 which is not in the 5/3 line up for PIR so, here I am.  I too have not received my form letter yet and driving me crazy.  My daughter will be a MA.

Hello Ladies!  My son left on the 12th, and though I've yet to receive my letter, I'm assuming that his PIR date will be the 10th.  His rating will be either ET or FC, so he will stay in Great Lakes for A school.  I'm not a new Navy mom, since my son-in-law is a nuke on a sub stationed in Guam, but I am a new boot camp mom, since my daughter met him while he was at NNPTC.  I'm very much looking forward to my son's PIR!  After waiting for six months to report to boot camp, we were all ready for him to go, lol!

Hello!

Welcome to your PIR Group!

My Sailor PIR’d in 05/2011. He is a Seabee Reservist. I have been an AF (Security Forces) Reservist wife for 27 + years…I know …not Navy…but I am somewhat familiar with military life! We have been through two Deployments. Our son enlisted while Hubby was in Iraq. This site was a Godsend and helped me get through not only our sons BC experience but my husbands and my separation for 6 months.

I am a “veteran” mom on the PIR groups mostly. I have been on them now for over a year and we have 7-8 PIR groups running at the same time.

I will check in here to see if I can answer any questions and lend support. There will be a few other veteran moms along to lend a hand and support you all through your PIR experience. Others drop in occasionally too…plus we are always looking for more to “join the ranks”. Things change in the military and we like to give out the most current info that we can so moms that have just gone through this help a lot.

I have a lot of PAGES with information to provide you along the way. I will post as the subjects come up! Please ask any and all questions…there are NO dumb ones Folks!

Hang on for the ride!
