N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

hello all! I am praying all moms have received everything: form letters, phone calls, letters from their SR's. I am learning patience through this experience. It really makes me appreciate how precious your time is with your Navy Loved One! God Bless You & Your Navy Loved Ones! 38 days, 19 hours, 13 mins 14 secs until PIR: 5/10/13!!!

Posted the BattleStations discussion above.  This group will start them most likely the last week in April.

Thanks ellen0502! Good to know and awesome of your son to pass it along!

Karen, yes, they call with a calling card but beware because 60 minutes is really only about 5 minutes because of the long distance. Our SR had only a couple of minutes and he thought he had 45. Good idea to mail one today, so am I!!

Karen,

you can do that or you can write to callsforrecruits@gmail.com and they will email you several calling cards (a phone number and a series of pin numbers good for 20 minute phone calls) you can transfer that info to a letter to send your SR.

Comment by Karen on April 1, 2013 at 1:56pm

I am confused...is that how our Sr's call us...have to have a calling card???? I am going to go buy one and put it in the mail..today...

Comment by ellen0502 on April 1, 2013 at 1:13pm

There are calling cards that you can find with 400 or more minutes, not expensive and can be recharged. I found on with 800 minutes for $30, wrote down all the numbers so I could recharge it and keep track of the minutes. I also activated it at home.

My son passed his on when he was through with it, it has been reused several times. I am not putting additional minutes on it, but others are as they are using it.

Super bummer that our SR got to call Saturday but only had enough minutes on his calling card to talk to his dad for a few minutes and then got cut off. I need to find a better calling card! :)  At least his info was confirmed; Ship 09 Div 185. Now I can work on planning the trip to IL and figuring out which 4 people are going to PIR since our son is loved my so many and really has a great support from both sides of our families! Looking forward to connecting with all the other Navy Moms and hopefully meeting at PIR 05/10.

I am looking forward to seeing my son.  It seems as if he has been gone forever.  I have not received a phone call yet.  I did get the box and his mailing address.  I have been sending letters but no reply yet.  He did speak with his girlfriend on Saturday and it sounds as if he is okay.

Morning All- been having a rough time- I miss her so much- never fully realized all the things we did together, that now I'm doing alone- Yesterday was tough- but Got a letter and a call on Saturday she'd been on limited light duty for rolling her ankle- she says she should be back to fit for duty today- she says the watches are boring- she's happy- and that's all that matters- Have a good day all
