I have a daughter in this division-anyone else?  Looking forward to getting a phone call from her, and a real letter.  I am trying to write her everyday. Even sent a letter from her dog  :-).  Also sent her a questionnaire, hope she doesn't think its silly.  Her PIR is 5/13 and we have made our reservations for Ramada Inn and will be driving there. Since we are appox. 6 hours away.

Our son is in this division.  We are also staying at the Ramada.  We are from Texas.  Josh is our oldest and the first to leave home.  we have missed him a lot.  The longest hes been away from home before this is a week.  He's been to many camps, but my husband was his youth minister, so we always went along.  It's been hard, but we have tried to "look on the bright side" and think about what a great adventure he is starting.  Does your daughter already have a job assignment?  Josh will be staying for A school after Basic.

Hi Joshsmom

I am waiting for my son to call me as well and write me other than the standard letter.  I pray for him everythime I  think of him as well as his unit.  I just made my reservation at the Ramada as well.  My sons assign is suppose to be in Texas, I hope he will tell me if he is a grad and go I hope to spend more time with him.  I am also in the Youth ministry and have spend most of the with my son on outings and at church, this has been a big transition for me as well.  I look forward to hearing from you Josh mom, my son is Jared.

Nice to meet you!  This is a lot tougher than I thought and my daughter is graduating this year and moving off.  We are losing both of our kids in just a few short months!  this year has been full of changes.  We went from a house full of 30+ kids at a time with the youth group to (retired now from ministry) a soon to be empty nest in August.  We are starting to get used to the quiet house.  I cannot wait to see Josh. Your son is in Ship 7, div 171?  I wonder if our boys know each other?  Josh just turned 20, graduated in 2009.  How old is your son?  Im writing Josh every weekend, over the weekend and mailing the letter on Mondays.  My husband mails his letters separately so he can get at least 2 letters.  Our daughter is writing him too.  I hope his friends are writing him as well, I know those letters are like GOLD! We live in Texas and if your son gets assigned near our town, I'd be happy to be available when he needs a hand.

Hi Joshmom,

My son is Ship 7 Division 172 I wonder if they mingle with the other divisions there is so much to learn about this military life.  I too would have a house full of youth, our church family and his friends have been so supportive.  I am writing weekly as well, I am waiting for a real letter from him, I am also anxious for a phone call even for 1 min.  When are you arriving , My family and I will be coming in Thursday midday to try to catch any festivites for the families.  By the way my son is 18 just graduated in 2010. I hafve been preparing for this moment since March 2010, still not easy, but I am adjusting with alot of moments that I cry for a little bit then I am  okay, he is my only child.  I look forward to hearing from u I am going to get myself to bed early work day.  I will talk to you later Joshmom.

We are driving up and probably wont be able to check in until late Thursday.  It's about a 13 hour drive for us.  I know what you mean about the phone call.  I just want to hear his voice!  I have had my moments...like when the box came.  For some reason, holding the clothes he was wearing the last time we saw him made me cry a little.  His room was a mess when he left, so we cleaned it up.  Removed all of the DVDs he had borrowed, cleaned chocolate off the carpet UNDER his bed...how did it get there?  He wont even recognize it when he comes back, but it looks so much better!  We still have a daughter at home until August.  She will go to college in Texas, so we will be able to see her more.  We only have about 6 more weeks to go before we can see our boys again!  Texas is a pretty big state, but if your son is assigned anywhere close to us and needs a "Texas mama" while he is here, I will certainly be happy to help him out.

Since this is a public forum, I guess I should be careful about what info I give out.  I'm going to try to give you my email address.  Maybe there's a place on your profile page.  I'll check it out.  Talk to you later,

Joshsmom

Hi Joshmom,

I find myself addicted to this site somehow i feel more connected to my son when i am on here, I have enjoyed communicating with all the moms just like me ! Jared's room was a mess as well, still getting things together in there.  I cant wait to see my son either.  I am not sure where in Texas however we will find out the day of graduation.  I appreciate your offer we will see I did connect with you on facebook and it did go to my email.  I will attemp sometime this week to get my picture up.  Until then it is great communicating with you, I will talk with you tomorrow. Have a good night Joshmom

My son is in in the same division.  We are planning to travel from Rochester NY to see our Sailor graduate. I  know sure know how you feel about having your daughter away from home. Has really been difficult especially after reading the first letter!  We know it is a great move for him and know he will adjust to military life.  My son will be be going to Mississippi for A school and will be a logistics specialist.  Counting the days to PIR!
My daughter is 23, had spent some time in college, Her rate is AEFC. My understanding is she will be spending time @ GL after boot camp for her A school. Thats  nice for us and her she has a brother that lives in Chicago, so we can go visit them both, We are about a 5 1/2 hr drive from them. I have not rec'd a phone call yet, no "real" letter which I am looking forward too.  I was surprise at their PIR date I really thought it would of been the following week.  I hope we can get to the meet and greet @ Ramada Inn on 5/12, will all depend on what time my husband can leave work. Sounds like the "kids" are on a co-ed ship. Which is ok, since once they are on real ship, that's how it will be
Has anyone gotten a phone call from their recruit on this ship/division yet?  (ship7/div 171). I haven't but just found out there is a problem with my cell phone. Went to Sprint store, they have to order me a new phone-will b in on Monday. I am wondering if I may of missed her call  :-( .  Hubby and I were sitting there, and phone beep-saying missed call w/vmail (wasn't her). But my phone NEVER rang. Has happen a couple of other times, hubby showed me on his phone that he called, and it never came thru (even as a missed call) . I hope everythng is ok
We got our first letter yesterday, but still no phone call.   If you'd like to email me, I'm at drjen07@yahoo.com. My son is going to be staying in GL for A school too.

Hi Joshmom

It has been a while since we talked, I did receive a letter from Jared last Wednesday as well.  He says he is doing well.  He misses us just as much as we miss him.,  I have not received a phone call yet, that would make me feel great to hear his voice! my ticket has been purchased I will be arriving into Chicago on Thursday morning.  I had a ton of questions to ask him in the last letter I sent him. I wonder if we can bring his civillian clothes or do we need to ship them to where his school will be?  I am looking forward to meeting you take care

NewNavyMom11

Hi NewNavyMom11, how are you?

Only 2 more weeks!  I cant wait!  From his letters, my son has passed all of his inspections and physical tests.  He even has been going to church and bringing friends!  I'm really proud of him....looks like he's found his niche!  We have found out that he will not be staying in GL for A school, so our weekend will be cut short, bummer, but he will be closer to home now and we may be able to run down for a visit now and then.  Battle stations next week!  Oh, he's put on 12 pounds! ha!

Seems like he's been gone forever! Cant wait to see him!

Take care, maybe we will get to meet in a couple of weeks....is our division wearing ribbons or scarves or anything like that?
