PS. if Spec.Ops is so hush-hush why is there a group picture on display @ RTC in the showcase and then available for purchase at the NEX photo store for just about anyone to purchase?

One of the proudest days of my life!  Everthing was just great and good luck just kept finding me starting yesterday.  Numerous incidental things just kept popping up in front of me, starting with the lucky penny, heads up when I opened my car door at the hotel!  I tell you, it was the best 'Friday the 13th' of my life.

We are all exhausted in a goodway and ready for some rest with a day of Liberty tomorrow!

If you have any doubt, I would go with whatever your sailor tells you.

Mom2kyfan -- diannep and I are not disbelieving you, it's just that we haven't heard that before. I just checked RTC's own family guide, and on page 5 it says:

If your Sailor is attending A School away from Great Lakes, you may not escort them to their next command. If your recruit is flying out, you may not escort them to the airport (typically either O‟Hare or Midway in Chicago) but you may meet them at the airport. Some Sailors might fly out a charter flight, thus, families will be unable to meet them at the airport.

As you can see, families were allowed to meet them at the airport, however, it may very well be that something has changed.

Must be something new, then.

It was announced twice during the ceremony, and right before the sailors were released to families....if someone questions this listen to the DVD if you get it....First thing I asked my sailor was about this and he said Mom were were briefed about several things and the one thing was about going to the airport to meet your sailors...One of his training officers was close to us and said that although many families do that hey do not recommend it and its really frowned upon but not enforced...but as I said most people are going to do what they want.  Btw for those moms that told me that its rare for someone to graduate as an E3 or that it was rare, wrong.  My son graduated today as an E3 and if all things go well will get his E4 or be able to test for E4 in September...

They had heightened security last week as well, and the families were free to go to the airport. Maybe something has changed?

Make sure you have ID with you to get the gate pass!
Comment by diannep on May 13, 2011 at 9:13pm
Dr Kimber:  You DO have to get an airlines gate pass (your sailor present with you) in order to get through security and wait at the gate with your sailor.

Mom2kyfan:  Why are they telling families NOT to go to the airport to meet up with their sailors????  I have never heard of that before!  Every PIR group has families there with the sailors at the airports.  The only time families can't be there is if they are on charter flights---not allowed to see them then.  Is this a security issue maybe because of the heightened security since the Bin Laden killing?
