OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Thanks, Lala, for the FRG info.  My son's ship is dry docked for another couple of years, so no deployment for him yet.

But moms..if you watched the video jessica posted, in the beginning he refers to the importance of getting mail while in there. Its so true. my son said there were about 3 times when he didnt receive mail...and he was bummed out. Its the highlight of their days, so keep it flowing. You can send pics of pets, comics, sports articles on their favorite teams, crossword puzzles, questionaires (which we will post for you to print out, they love them)

jessica--loved this video too!..he has had so many comments about how much he has helped women get thru the tough times. I especially relate (even though im a MOM) to the part about FB status'. If you would see my FB page, its nothing but Navy stuff...My older son is in college, and he refers to himself as 'son #2'...all in fun of course...but i can see why!. I have to hold myself back from completely 'blinging' out with Navy stuff...haha!

FRG is Family Readiness Group. They are the ones who send out newsletters and info when your sailor is deployed. They send you a gate pass so you can get on bass when the ship is coming in. Without them, you can't get on base at all for the homecoming. Without them you won't even know when they are coming back because you have very little contact with your sailor when they are deployed.

I had the same problem with the fax not going through, but I eventually got it to go through.  It only took me 5 times though, so idk why it's not working for you.  Try going to his recruiter and have him fax it at the office.

That gives me hope that he's reading mine and that I'll be getting mine

Thank you so much for that I was wondering if they've been getting them.
