Janlee - Thank you for the Blue Star info.  I got the same info from my sister-in-law.  Her son, my nephew, is a Staff Sargeant in the Army and she passed this info to me and even a link to my local Blue Star chapter.  I plan on ordering one.

I just can't wait to hear from him in some way shape or form!!

savanah---yes...thats typical...but it may even be a little longer. I know its tough, but once the letters start getting exchanged, it gets easier.

The weeks are weird in there. Some of your SR's may have gone in a few days or maybe even a week after each other, they sometimes are held up a little while while waiting for the division to fill up. So for some of you...what seems like the 3rd sunday, is really only week two to your SR.....

No, My husband got to write last Sunday and it was his 2nd Sunday there.

so they dont get to write till the 3rd sunday??
Comment by janlee on March 29, 2011 at 5:36pm
They are usually able to start writing letters home about 3 weeks. At first they can only write on Sundays (they get 5 hrs of down time every sunday morning). The isolation from family is for a reason...they also have to 'train' a recruit to deliver the mail, and this takes time. Just make sure you keep sending mail everyday, even though they may seem like 'letters to nowhere' right now.  When they are finally given their mail...you want them to have a lot, so they know how much you have been thinking about them....my son said he was afraid everyone was going to forget about him, then he received his first bundle of mail, and realized he was crazy...lol
