A word of advice for you is to not make any travel arrangements until at least half way through BC as many things can change the PIR date for your recruit such as injuries, discharge, illness and many other things.  Do not stress about this, I made my reservations 1 week out from PIR and got great rates on everything.  When thinking about flying look into flying into Milwaukee as it can save you lots of money and is the same distance to the base as from Chicago.  You are just beginning your journey and will learn so much on this site, if you know what job -  Nuke, SAR, etc. join those groups also and you will learn and make more new friends.

Welcome Mama C:  So glad that his wonderful RDC allowed him to make that extra special call!  I got one like that too when my son was at bootcamp.  He was able to call Thanksgiving morning (3 days after he arrived).  Just 5 minutes, but a great 5 minutes!

Well, I hesitated in joining this group until I got an official PIR, but I decided to join anyway - I can always change I guess.  Anyway, my son shipped 03/16, and I've already gotten 2 phone calls!  First phone call was,"The I'm here" call Wed. night.  The second call was Sun. 03/20!  Couldn't believe it!  He said RDC was being generous.  Anyway, that's when my son gave me his verbal PIR.  I got his box yesterday - Oh, the "lovely aroma"!  Still no word on ship/div, but I'm hoping it comes soon.  Can't wait to send letters.
