Welcome to the Division Discussion for Divisions 171 and 172
These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.
Get to know each other, your SRs are!
Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions, and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.
Every single question that is asked is important Every single concern is genuine Every single member is important to us We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.
Hang in there!!!

I got my first "real" phone call from my Daughter on Saturday!! When I answered the phone she was crying.....I start flipping out "are you OK??" she immediately interjects "momma I'm fine - don't worry - these are tears of joy." She couldn't get her phone card to work, so she was standing along the wall; another Ship member (a male) asked her why she wasn't making her phone call. After she explained the phone card dilemma, he immediately gave her his and said he had tons of minutes, use them!! Thank you to the SR who took it upon himself to help my Daughter out - that was a very kind thing to do. And rest assured you made this Momma's day, I got to hear her voice!!
She's doing good - a little sore but other than that she is OK. I was so relieved to hear her "normal" voice especially after the "I am here" script phone call which made me all emotional!! She is Ship 11 Div 171.
Hi glosmom, I loved reading this especially about the phone card. I am sure this can fit all the guys there but I have to say it sounds like my son. He does have tons of minutes and he is a good ole soul. I believe he left with over 20 phone cards, each family member gave him one : ) I sure hope it was him but if it wasn't I am proud of whom ever helped her out. Love stories like this. My son is Ship 11 Div 172.
Teri
I got my call on Saturday also. I was awake, but still in bed discussing the plans of the day with my husband and Chihuahua (who sleeps UNDER the covers.) The house phone started ringing and I bolted from the bed, flew through the house and then just before I answered it I realized it was probably just my oldest daughter calling to ask me to bring her something at work (we do not have called ID.) So I was unprepared to hear my little SR girl!!
I think that non-preparedness helped because I was so surprised (though I had told my husband the night before that we should answer any calls our cell phones got no matter what the call ID said because I had heard that they might call this weekend. So you would think I would have been prepared, but I guess I was really more prepared to be disappointed ), I was so surprised that I didn't cry, not once during the whole call....not until I after I hung up!
My SR sounded good, though she asked somebody at one point "are you supposed to get off now" and then that person said "Yes". I think she is so conscious of the rules and doing everything right that she brought attention to the fact that she was still on the phone (it was probably about 5 minutes) and so then she had to get off. It's good that she wants to do what is right, but a little part of me wished she had just waited until she was ordered off the phone. Sigh!
She did say the unit got IT on Friday and she was not happy about that, but then again that is why they have IT, it's not supposed to be fun. She said they got it because someone didn't fold their blanket right. I reminded her that next time it could be her fault and not to hold it against that person.
When we got off the phone my husband said I wasn't supposed to say that, that the unit it supposed to be upset with the person at fault, that is how it works. Peer pressure forces the individual the try harder for the sake of the unit. :-(
Glosmom, I am so happy that SR helped your daughter, l like to believe that they will all help each other out and anyone else who needs it.That is what being a unit really it, supporting and lifting each other up! Yay to her ship member and yay to you for getting the call!!
Hello Everyone :) i hope all had a great Monday. I couldn't wait to tell everyone at work this I got to talk to my SR on Saturday ! I mailed him another letter day along with a Questionnaire He said they don't have much time for writing so maybe that will be easier for him.
For PIR: I have my hotel booked, rental car booked, Cub tickets purchased, now I need to purchase the airline tickets.
I purchased an extra ticket to the Wrigley Field in case my SR knows someone that will not have family at PIR, they can join us!
We are so excited we cant wait!
Teri - what club ticket did you buy ? just wondering if I'm missing something...
I bought Chicago Cub tickets to a baseball game on Sunday. We are a huge baseball fan so to go to Chicago and not see Wrigley field would be unheard of in my family : ) I have been trying to find some low key things to do while we are there. We are coming in Thursday night and leaving Tuesday.
I think we are gonna end up driving (per my husbands request) but we are leaving SC on Wednesday and driving back Monday our SR's A school is in GL so I wanted to spend as much time as we could with him. LOL I thought your original post said CLUB ticket LOL thought I was missing to on a party ! LOL is see now that it says CUB hahahahaha needed a laugh this morning I wonder if the ITT office has tickets to the games too ? mmmmm I will have to check on that
ProudMomma,
Hugs to you! I think few but us moms understand how hard this is.
Even my husband doesn't quite get it. He just could not believe that I wanted to to go to the post office to mail ANOTHER letter (number 4), "Didn't you JUST send her one last week?" well....actually I sent three last week.
S\Kn the past she has been gone for weeks at a time as she has worked at the Girl Scout Camp for a couple of summers. But that is only 45 minutes away, she did come home three different times during the summer and I knew at the end of it she was coming back home.
This is different.
Not only do I know this is harder than anything she has ever done, and I worry about her health, her sleeping, her eating and those things we have all worried about our whole children's lives, but I know at the end of this she is not coming back.
That she has grown her wings and is flying away.
So to that end, I could not agree more with your last sentence.
Gosh I miss her, I really, really do. But I know the Navy is going to be a great adventure for her, a wonderful second family and most importantly what she wants to do!
