Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!
Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!
Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

You can send cards, but no glitter of any kind, no musical cards, no confetti, and nothing that wouldn't be considered PG-13. :) If the card has a colored envelope you might want to switch it out with a white one.

You can send him a card, but there are some things you should follow. NO musical cards or recordable cards are allowed. Make sure the card doesn't have any glitter in or on it, no confetti, etc. as those things go everywhere and they end up cleaning everything. Best to make sure the envelope is white and no stickers or drawings on the outside of the envelope. You can also send him a picture, but the smaller the better. It's recommended that you copy pictures onto printer paper if possible. As for sending him anything else, you should stick with just letters and cards as NO food is allowed there.
There is a place on this site where you can read about the rules/recommendations for letter writing. On this page just scroll up some and look to the right side of the screen...you'll see it say PAGES 10. Look for where it says "Letter Writing & Fun Stuff" then click. This will give you a better idea of things you should and should not send.

I was told not to send cards. Just tell him happy birthday in a letter. He won't to be singled out.

Jennifer Yes you can send him a card but I wouldn't want to single him out. If the RDCs find out it's his birthday they will make a big fuss about it. I would keep quiet.

So my fiancées birthday is coming up would I be able to send him a birthday card?? Or can I send him anything? Like a photo or anything? I don't want him feeling bad on his birthday, I did celebrate it before he left but I didn't get him a card I thought I would send him one, but no sure if that's aloud.

rachel: You can ask on his A School group on here which airports their sailors flew from. Not a guarantee but if one airport keeps coming up, better chance for your sailor to fly from that one.
Southwest also flies into Milwaukee, but we aren't sure the sailors are flying from that one yet. I hope you can work it out!

I'm glad everyone's happy lately :))
I live far so I except my letter to be here Thursday at least, and I can't wait for it,
lately I have been missing him since I been home more then I have been in a while since I still haven't got a job but I'm still trying.

Yes you can send flowers. I told him ahead of time so he didn't think he could skip mothers day! Lol we live pretty far so I expect his letters to come Friday.
