~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

DsMomma:  You will be able to talk to your sailor during the I'm a Sailor call and can ask him then who he would like up there as far as "extras".  But as far as PIR, he can only have the 4 guests he put on his list (which he can update in another couple of weeks).

Yes, Dmanmom:  The company apparently did take down the division flag design pictures of the tshirts.   Our belief is that this design should not be "revealed" until PIR when your division marches in with their self-designed flag!  This is a new company handling these tshirts so there may be some "blips" in the beginning getting it all straight.

Today was letter for me!  My son said he passed all his inspections and his PFA  other than that it was very uninformative and short and sweet.  He hasn't answered any of the important questions I needed him to, so I guess I will have to use my best judgement on how many people go up for PIR Friday.  I hate trying to guess what I think he would want... to see everyone, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins,  or just have some more quiet less frantic time with just us(hisparents and sisters) and fiance.  I guess I know he is doing well and that is the important part.  I hope everyone else got a letter today and that all is well in your corners of the world!

Ladies, you are the best ever.  She would love letters and cards of support and encouragement.  Plese PM me, and I'd be happy to give you her address.  I'd be totally lost without my wonderful N4M support system.  You are blessings.

janaismom: I would also like to send her a card if you think extra mail would help, if so please message me her address. She did nothing wrong to make this happen! In fact it's the opposite. It is a testament to how determined and hardworking she is that this happened. She is very tough! You should be very proud of her and of the qualities you taught her that meant that she pushed through the pain and keep going so long. She will be a wonderful asset to the Navy and they know it, that's why they are keeping her in until she heals. What a woman she is! :) I'm sending good thoughts to her and to you, that she will be proud of how strong she is and you will be proud of what you taught her as her mother.

janaismom, I know it was so difficult to be strong for  your daughter when she called. Please know that we are here for you as you would be for any of us. She is in great hands, she will heal and will continue to have fabulous future as a sailor! I am so sorry she is going through this as well as yourself. Please send me her new address and I will be sending her letters of encouragement. Prayers are being sent her way!

janaismom:  So very very sorry!  Shin splints are very common in BC so I have high hopes for her that she will heal and be back to training.  My guess is that she will heal before the 6 weeks!  Write her extra often now....and get others to.  They need lots of extra encouragement when in RCU.  We will look forward to you being back on a future PIR group soon!  :-)  Blessings and quick/complete healing to your daughter!

Comment by Janai'sMom on April 23, 2013 at 9:37pm

Hi moms.  I got one of the worst phone calls from my SR this afternoon.  She had shin splints which she tried to muster though, but the pain became unbearable.  She had no choice but to go to medical.  Upon xrays, she has two stress fractures in her legs.  She is not, by the grace of God, being separated, but will be in physical therapy for a minimum of 6 weeks.  She is devastated.  I kept it together for the two minutes she was allowed to talk, and she may get to call again in about three weeks.  She will resume with a new division after healing at the point where she left off (4-1) and graduate with another division sometime who knows when.  Her heart is broken, as is mine.  I am at a total loss for words, and am waiting to wake up from this nightmare.  I dug deep and was strong and reassuring for her, but I am a total wreck.  She knows God is in control, and this is just a setback. Fortunately, she was able to talk long enough for me to get her new address. Please keep her in your prayers for a speedy and full recovery, and strength and peace.  I look forward to hearing your PIR stories on the 17th, and my thoughts will be with you and your new Sailors on that date, wishing we could be there with you.

I'm still here.  Things have gotten really busy in our house over past couple of weeks.  Looking forward to M&G and PIR!  I can't believe we past the half way point!  Vicky ship 13/div188 - let me know if you need me to bring name tags & markers too.  I'd be happy to do so.

Just a heads up:

Hotel reservations should be made by now....don't wait on those since hotels are starting to fill up.  You can always change/cancel with no penalty usually within 24 hours of arrival.  If you are unsure which hotel you want to stay in and have a couple picked out, book at both until you decide (just don't forget to cancel one of them!).  I know some of the later PIR groups are running into no rooms available in some of the hotels...especially the 2 bedroom suites, which Residence Inn has.

Also, for those who still have not booked flights, remember to checkout Southwest Airlines into Milwaukee (45 min from GL) or Chicago-Midway (hour or more from GL).  No change fee if you need to change reservations, and 2 bags check for free.  Milwaukee usually has cheaper car rental, flights could be cheaper, and NO traffic.

Planning to drive to GL?  Consider bringing the dogs!  Residence, Navy Lodge, and a few others in the area are "pet friendly."
