Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Please use them to get to know each other even better on a "Divisional" basis...BUT remember that you all have the same PIR date and many of you will be attending the same Meet and Greets...so please continue to post on the Main Wall here.

Also, please continue to post your questions for us "veteran moms" on the Main Wall here. We have 7-8 active PIR groups going at one time..that's 70-80 Divisions! We try to get to the Division Discussions but with that many it is difficult! We don't want to miss any questions as ALL are important...no dumb ones...for many of you this is your first service member and we want to be there to help and lend support.

I keep my cell phone in my hand most of the day and next to me at night. Anxiously waiting for the "I'm safe" phone call. I just hope I can hold it together and not cry when she does call.

Ahhh....bonitacruzita. So sorry....yes, she is safe and learning to be a sailor! But I know it is hard....hoping that you get that letter and/or call soon to make you feel better. And, book your flight back on Sunday...just in case you get extra time with your sailor that weekend. Just a suggestion!

I was under the impression they weren't allowed to write during the first holiday rotation, which was Sun March 24. I think the first chance they got to write was Easter Sunday, with letters mailed yesterday, so I'm hoping for one by the end of the week...any veterans moms out there that would know this?

Comment by BearsmomShip12Div189 on April 2, 2013 at 9:23pm: I am usually a pretty strong person but geez I am feeling myself starting to crack...I missed my sons call home on saturday which just devastated me...I feel like even though I got the form letter I still can not make flight reservations because I just need to talk to him..to. hear his voice...to make sure everything is going great and that he is doing ok...that he is still on schedule for PIR on 5/17....Thank God for this site and all of the postings to know that I am not alone and others are feeling the same way I am....have a great night Everyone!

I'm a male but this site is very informative then the ones for guys lol so im just here to see how every one else is.my girl friend is ship 12 div 190 got a call Saturday for almost 20 min and got all her box and grad letter last week! Now it's just counting down the 47 days and waiting for the arrival of the weekly letter and the next chance they are allowed to call!

I have to keep telling myself that she is okay, nobody is hurting her and that this is where she wants to be. I'm teary eyed a few times a day. I don't cry they just well up and then it passes.
