~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

189, not 1891.

Comment by diannep on March 29, 2013 at 8:49pm

Don't think the 1891 division number is correct!  And remember, no need to put ship name on the envelope.  Won't hurt, but only the Ship/Div number and street address are needed.

bonitacruzita:  Look to the right of this screen. You will see the MeetandGreets listed.  Your date is not on there yet (will be later) but you can click on any of them and read the info about them.  They are the same from week to week!

Jesssea:  Lab Lover here....well, all out dog lover, but a special place in my heart for Labs.  Have had 6 in our family since the late 60's, starting with my brother's dog then.  My current one (yellow) is a rescue, as are the other 2 dogs I have.  I hope that some of you can take your dogs with you to PIR !  Navy Lodge and Residence Inn are pet friendly!  There are other hotels who are also pet friendly in the area.

diannep,

Thank you for the info. How do I find out more about it? I just got chills thinking about graduation, cause all though it feels far away, its really not. Thank you again.

@ sheldonsmom....my son is left on the 19th also and he too is ship 12 div 189....I received my letter yesterday finally and it says ship 12 div 189....no ship name

Comment by bonitacruzita5894 on March 29, 2013 at 8:43pm

Sheldonsmom, this is what lemonelephant sent to me after I had posted that I got my daughters address from her recruiter (check the address against those at http://bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp and/or in Ship/Division--How it Works.  We strongly encourage you to wait on the form letter though before mailing letters. See Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit.)  My daughters recruiter also gave me info that was slightly different. I would change it to :

SHIP 12 USS TRITON DIV189I

and you have the rest of the address correct? I'm no pro but its worth a shot.

Comment by diannep on March 29, 2013 at 8:43pm

Bonitacruzita:  There are actually 3 MeetandGreets already set up for you all (will be).  Flanagans, Ramada, and Sarge each have one the night before PIR.  You can have a table for your division there....someone can make and bring a sign and you can get to know each other that way.  You would just need to decide which one you want to go to!  Sarge's has the most info!  And very good food, I hear!  All are free but Sarge does accept donations there since he/wife pay out of their own pockets each week.  All 3 are family friendly!

Comment by diannep on March 29, 2013 at 8:41pm

Div 189 is the correct one.  Yep, you don't need to include the ship name in the address, so it would be correct to put:  Ship 12 Div 189.

Comment by sheldonsmom on March 29, 2013 at 8:20pm
Thank you ladies for your help:) The Div and Ship his recruiter gave us reads like, Div 189I USS Triton, do I drop the I and change it to ship 12? I'm so confused over something so simple.
