Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

We received our form letter last week and I noticed that in the PIR attendance list our son wrote "dad, mom, sister". My sincere hope is that he gave them our actual names and just wrote that to save time (lol). I did however write him to make sure.

Just sent "light" articles though....there is a reason they have them cut off from national and world events! They want them concentrating on their training! Sports articles, etc, are fine.

Comment by navy1985 on April 4, 2015 at 9:10am: True or false question for the veteran mothers. Do you know if it's okay to mail newspaper clips to the SR's? I read in one if the sites, that sometimes they don't allow that because the ink from the newspaper might transfer to their uniform.

I have been expecting the box sooner, but I did get a call from the local FEDEX office stating they tried to deliver it 3 x already and now I need to pick it up. They never left a note on the door or I would of left them one back telling them to leave it w/o signature. Oh well, at least I know it's there, but it would of relieved some anxiety this week if I would of had it. LOL So everyone please leave a note for your FedEx guy if you are at work. My son's PIR is May 22nd and he is staying on in GL so we will arrive Thursday and leave on Monday. Yes, planning on going to Sarge's Meet & Greet. I have booked my room, and I am waiting to speak to my son's girlfriends parents before booking airfare, since she made the 'elite four' guest list. LOL I was amazed at the precise penmanship of the letter, I guess they are teaching them to write neat and orderly. Hope my messy son comes home with some more 'neat' qualities... Can't wait to meet everyone.

I did notice no shoes in box..My husband is a retired Navy Submariner and I am now a proud Navy mom. We are planning to be at the Sarges meet and greet and hopefully meet some of you.
