~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Hotels recommended by others who have stayed there during PIR weekend:

Navy Lodge (close to RTC, affordable, simple but clean, renovated about a year ago)--book in your SR's name if you do not have military ID

Courtyard Inn, Springhill Suites, Residence Inn, Holiday Inn Express....all of these close to each other, close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held for you the night before PIR....about 4-5 miles from RTC.  Shuttle service available from these hotels, either with Sarge's service (book at the MeetandGreet or contact him at 847 212 0246 or johnspadaro@att.net) or booking when you check in to use the local shuttle (taxi) service.  PIR shuttle service is $3/pp each way with either service.  If you used Sarge's shuttle service from the airport, he takes you to PIR for free.

If staying at a hotel off base, be sure to call the hotel directly and ask for the Navy Graduation rate.  Most have this.  You can get some hotels pretty cheap that way.

Laura:  We stayed at Residence when up there and really enjoyed it.

Good Morning All !

I need to clarify what JD'sMom posted below.  Navy Lodge is outside of RTC...about a mile away in a housing section.  All who have an SR are entitled to stay there, just use your SR's name and tell them you are there for graduation if you are not military yourself.

On A School base, nearby, there is Navy Gateway Inn which is the hotel she is speaking of.  We must remind you though that if your sailor will be staying in GL for A School, there are strict rules for them as far as visiting you at this hotel.  They must get a "chit" when they move over to A School allowing them to visit you there.  There are rules for you roaming the base outside of the hotel without your sailor with you.  So you need to be aware of these restrictions if you plan to stay there.  There would be no need for a family to stay there if your sailor is flying out, in my opinion.  It is about a 2 mile distance from Navy Gateway to RTC...a little long to walk to PIR probably.  Navy Lodge would be a better choice to stay in (although you cannot walk from there either due to busy streets/lack of sidewalks).  Plus, your sailor most likely will want to enjoy the "civilian" world during PIR Liberty since he/she has been on a base for so long!  So a civilian hotel off base may be a good choice!

JDsMom:  From Milwaukee airport to GL is about a 45 min drive, no traffic.

For anyone who is military, retired, active you can stay on base for under $50/night in their hotel.
Lowe how long a drive is it from Milwaukee?
Comment by Laura731 (Ship 09 Div 179) on April 5, 2014 at 8:43am
Lowie we flew SW for 129 each way into Milwaukee. Our friend works for SW and said it's a holiday weekend and don't chance going standby. We also booked car at milwaukee airport cheap! Now for our hotel my mom has marriott points so we booked a 1 bedroom at renaissance inn in Waukegan there will be hot breakfast served of no extra charge. Hope this helps and praying everyone will hear form their SR this week.

Just an FYI, I just booked a rental car from Alamo at the Milwaukee airport, right now they are only $10 per day!

If I'm flying up there I'm going to at least stay until Monday so we can see the sights.
Comment by Lowie on April 5, 2014 at 7:53am
For those that booked hotels, can you say where you chose and why?

My neighbor (and the family my daughter babysat their twin boys) is a pilot for Southwest so I'm going to ask him about helping me get flights. I think living in south florida and trying to fly on a Holiday weekend is pushing up the rate.

Great thank you. We booked the Hotel on the Base since my boyfriend is a retired Army.
