OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Virginia:  Usually about a week before PIR.  Mail is forwarded to A School, we are told, but we all know how that can go.  Copy the letters and take copies to PIR with you if you want to write closer to PIR...just in case the originals didn't arrive.

I'm excited as well. When should I stop writing my SR at GL?

I know I saw this somewhere, but I can't find it -- when should we stop sending mail to RTC?

Comment by Sherry on May 13, 2013 at 5:57pm

Last week before we leave, lots to get accomplished.  Have put the form letter, reservation confirmation for hotels, copy of our ez pass paper work (first time having one), copy of our son's and girlfriend plane reservations, and by the weekend will add the parking pass for the base in a 3 ring binder  red in color so will be easy to find, Car going to get detailed tomorrow... thought it would be a great idea when we saw it at a home show, was even able to get a special price,  do not want to get any thing on his uniform, car has already  been to garage to have it checked... every thing good,  will pack this weekend so ready to leave early Tuesday morning.   Sherry

Good morning everyone, heading home now and I will be back on here tomorrow. I hope you all have a great Monday :) See you soon :)

No, smokeater.  Those wouldn't be your SRs in the ship picture.  It's a neat picture though!

Good Morning All !
