~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Thank you very much, CatMom 509, for all your encouraging Scripture quotes!
Re Chicago: Be aware that they have an extremely high sales tax (~10%) in the City of Chicago. The clear glass observation platform at the Sears Tower (officially the Willis Tower now, but I've lived in the area too long to call it that) is apparently quite a test of courage with an interesting view. I don't remember the price tag; my daughter went with friends. The Shedd Aquarium is very nice. There are several museums (Museum of Science and Industry, Museum of Natural History) close to Lake Michigan with the Aquarium and Adler Planetarium. They are all somewhat south. The Art Institute is on the lake, walking distance from the Metra train station (Ogleby).
There are many things to do in Chicago and the area, but driving can be very stressful. You might want to have a few ideas on hand, but, I agree that asking your SR what he/she wants to do is most important.
Thank you, Diannep. Most of our photos/albums are on the main floor, for which I am very thankful. The important documents fireproof box DID get water in it; how, I don't really know. So we have some very crinkled papers. :-(
I can't imagine having been in that hurricane. My step-brother's house in Homestead was hit, but the hurricane hooks saved the roof.
I'm overwhelmed enough by the amount of stuff we have to deal with, and the decisions that have to be made and work to be done before we can get things back down to the basement. Not only is my house getting lighter from the amount of things we've thrown out/recycled/given away, but I've lost 2 pounds! :-)
Good Morning All !
For those of you looking for a special gift for your SR-soon-to-be-Sailor, please check out www.pirgifts.com . They have Challenge Coins, which are a military tradition. Craig, who is one of thei administrators on Navy for Moms, designed the ones that are connected to the ships at RTC. The name of your SR's ship is right next to the ship number in the Discussion section. When you click on one of the coins, you will be taken to a page where there is a video about Challenge Coins. This would be a special gift especially connected to their Boot Camp days! Another really sharp coin is the Core Values one in the section where 70 other coins are available--it has cut outs and a diamond cut beveled edge. These coins are no longer given out by the Navy to the Sailors, so it is up to friends and family.
Just to add to CaMoms post, Sailors staying in GL have part of Friday, and all day Sat and Sun. Sat and Sun they will have from aprox 6am-10pm. They do need to report back each night, and hours may vary, even from ship to ship, but they will be briefed on hours when they check in.
Anna,
Don't forget to ask your SR what he/she wants to do on liberty. They might crave a certain favorite food they've been missing or to just want to relax on a big, comfortable hotel bed and take a nice, long, private shower~~ Don't forget, this is your time to savor with your new Sailor before they are off on another long stint training at A school, then who knows what next~~ The Sailors who have training A school training at Great Lakes will have the most time--because they have liberty all day Saturday too--for traveling around Chicago.
Catie: BattleStations is their final test, at the end of training week 6. Hell week is training week 4. So....they have a couple of more weeks before becoming sailors!
