OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

marie:  Your sailor can call you as soon as he arrives at A School with the address.  I mailed my son's phone right away so they should be able to receive pkgs right away.

mariekg your mil honestly thought you should give up YOUR invite??? That's a good one!! Some folks just don't get it.
Comment by mariekg on May 17, 2014 at 12:40pm

Diannep:...so yes!!!  and YOU got my satirical reference...reason =her "political views" don't support the military:(  She tortorured my poor sailor for months about his choice to get off the couch and contribute to the greatest country in the world...BTW she thought that perhaps I should give up my ticket  :)

How does someone find out when battle stations begins? I just kinda like knowing what they are doing each week:)

Diannep:  How soon after they get to A school can the Sailors get Care Package?  When do they get that address? I have so many folks looking to send him a token of gratitudeand encouragement.  Don't want to bring too much for him to carry to PIR as I don't want to weigh him down at the airport :)

BattleStations for some divisions will start later next week....and finish during PIR week!  Just a reminder that if you know an exact date for your division, we cannot post it here or on FB, but we can private message it to each other (post that you have a date for division ___ ).

Good Morning!  Have a great weekend!

We just got back from our trip and I feel like I have so much catching up to do. I haven't been on here for a week. I hope everyone is doing well. Battle stations should be right around the corner. Congrats to all of those who's sr's made sharpshooter. I know you are proud. I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day and a great week. I missed being able to connect. It doesn't sound like any calls went out this week. I was worried I was going to miss one. Any word on battle stations?
Comment by Cheryl(Anthony's mom) on May 17, 2014 at 7:48am
Jaguar, yea 'twas so sweet of your brother to offer to give up his ticket. I'm surfeit is very hard for our sr's to choose only 4 loved ones to attend. There is just know way someone is not going to feel left out out and hurt especially if they come from a large family that is close. I think most of us can relate. I would hate to be in the wife's position having to choose. That is sure to be a mess. I hope everything works out and everyone knows they are not less loved just because they are not on the list.

And to those of you who are missing your future sailors:

Take heart! These weeks in basic training are the worst for communication.  It only gets better from here!!!  Soon phone conversations will be the norm again and you should also be able to facebook or e-mail frequently with your loved ones.
