~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I was leaning more towards the last name because I know that is what they go by in BC.  Thanks.

Comment by DebbieS on May 8, 2014 at 2:34pm

I think that it's probably your preference.

A friend made mine for me.  I put our last name on the one side of the ribbon and the division number on the other.  That way we can find the families in the same division and the families of the friends that my daughter has mentioned in her letters.  She only refers to everyone by their last name.

Another friend's daughter had her PIR last month.  She put her daughters first name on the one ribbon, and then "Mom" "Sister" "Dad" on the other ribbon.

I have a question about the ribbons?  Is it better to get my son's first name of last name on the ribbon.

Jenn, Your sailor won't have two A Schools. He is AECF STG correct?

His school in GL sounds like and probably is ATT (Apprentice Technical Training), is a requirement for several ratings, and is a precursor to A School. It teaches everyone dealing with equipment that a watcha-ma-call-it is not a thing-a-ma-jig. Nothing like needing the thing-a-ma-jig fixed or manned only to find out you have always called it a watcha-ma-call-it. :)

For phasing up, hard to say whether he will start over in San Diego. I understand things in GL have changed on phasing up, from what I have seen posted, and it takes 30 days to get to Phase II now instead of a couple of weeks, and the same for Phase III. I don't know if he will start over when he gets to San Diego, and hold time while classing up may change what phase he is when he leaves, but i would guess he would get there and remain at Phase II.

My SR has A school in GL for 6 weeks, and then 10 weeks of A school is San Diego... Do you think he will have to start all over with the Liberty phases when he transfers to his second A school?

We have only received 1 letter since our son touched down at GL!!! Not much of a letter writer (gets that from his Dad's side of the family). The one we did get was so upbeat and positive. He's a very smart guy.... i was not surprised and was happy that he put any fears i had to rest. Can't wait for the 30th!!

Marie - Too funny! ...and good question.

dianne - thanks for that answer. I know we want to go in August to see our son, so good to know there is a way they can know which weekends are open.

Lala - What a cutie! So glad everyone is okay and you get to spend some time with them before they head out west. =)

Good morning everyone, I have my sailor/daughter and grand baby home now. So good to have them here for a few weeks before they go to CA to join my SIL/Sailor. It is especially good to finally see them and know they are really okay after being in the car wreck last Saturday <3 Thanks so much for all the thoughts and prayers. We really appreciated it.
