~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Trish, Navy Lodge is just off base, about a mile. My hubby originally started reservations at the one on base, which is Navy Gateway, but we still have not heard from them and as diannep (I think it was) told us, our SR would need to fill out a chit to get permission to go to that facility. Just seemed easier all around to go with Navy Lodge, or another hotel off base....imo :)

Why are you thinking maybe not Navy Lodge?....did you hear or see something that concerns you?

Hello Im Div 186

I chose not to do on base cuz I read cell phones were banned on base and he will probably want to make some phone calls so would need to be off base to do that.  CB'S MOM

ok ladies what's the difference in the navy lodge in the housing, and the hotel that is on base, and requires background checks? I was going to do the navy lodge, but now I am thinking I should be in the other one?

Shoot! I wish we would have thought about using Costco!! Never entered my mind :-/

hmmm, might be able to cancel the other rental and still go through Costco. I will mention it to hubby tonight! Thank you mariekg!

diannep: I thought about that...He packed his backpack with laptop, keyboard, phone, favorite jacket, etc before he left. He wanted us to ship it to him once he was at A school, but I will ask him in a letter if he wants us to just bring it with us :)

Ladies....I used AVIS, went through COSTCO travel so I start w/ a 30% discount right there.  This is a great rate for a full sized but for a mini van...as they say here in NY forgetaboutit!!!    Mine is Thursday pickup Saturday drop off as well.  The only catch is that it not unlimited miles  it is restricted to 300 miles...seriously though with the limited time we have w/ our sailor I don't plan on cruising the country side  :)  Probably an early dinner and a stroll down at Navy Pier...don't want to keep him out too long it will be too difficult to get him back  :)

Comment by diannep on April 28, 2014 at 1:45pm

NanM:  Since you get 2 free checked bags, you may want to bring up some personal items for your sailor and check them through?  If they don't fit in your carry on.  Your sailor could decide which items to take to A School.

NanM:  I live in S. FL.....and we deal with lots of high humidity down here for so much of the year.  Yes, it is up big time right now.  Our temps have been hitting the high 80s but with the humidity, it feels much hotter!  I was sweating even at 6 a.m. on my long walk because of it!
