~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Does anyone know about the challenge coin?

Debbie:  That happens sometimes and so it is a good idea to stay until Sunday....just in case!  Most will fly out Saturday but sometimes some won't until Sunday.  It all depends on flights.

Laurie:  My friend stayed at Courtyard for her son's PIR and said it was good!

DoubleA'smom:  I agree with ellen....it is so emotionally up and down for them.  But it WILL get better.  He probably talked to you after he had a very bad day....when they make mistakes, they can get "grilled" by their RDCs and made to feel they can do nothing right (in the beginning of Bootcamp).  So hang in there.

NanM, I just made reservations at the Navy Lodge about four days ago. I made them thru Sunday since there is a no charge cancellation fee. That way we will be sure to be there if perhaps there are no flights out, etc. for them and there is that slim chance to spend just a few more minutes with our soon to be sailors. =)

DoubleA's mom, You are doing what you should by continuing to support him and letting him know he can do this.

It is not unusual at this point to hear of your recruit struggling and unsure of their decision, this is the breakdown part of BC. They are not far from things changing for them all, and they will know they can do this, they will be "figuring" things out for themselves, and will start to work as a team.

Hang in there, this part of it will be over soon!!!!

HI everyone! I haven't been on for a while. But my son did call us on Saturday. This was actually the second call we received from him. The first was earlier last week because he had item he needed for his clearance. He was able to talk for quite some time and he said all was good and the food was good etc. The second call was drastically different. He's not doing well and is struggling. I have everyone I know of sending him cards, letters and words of encourgement. He's always been a very independent person and I truly didn't think he would struggle. He did say that he made a couple of mistakes and I believe he was beating himself up over that. He also mentioned that he was regularly "raising his hand" for leadership positions and kept getting "shot down". He held a leadership position while in DEP for 9 months. He apparently had a rough couple of days and manged to get physically sick, which I'm sure didn't help any. I hate that he's struggling and I'm not sure what else I can do. Does anyone have any suggestions?
