N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

nickibink:  Sometimes those last 4 digits are different--not sure why.  They were different in the return address that my son would have on his letters sometimes.  When I asked him about it, he didn't know.  I just continued to use the numbers he wrote on the form letter...and he received all of my letters.  The division number is the very important number for the letters.  I don't believe the last 4 digits in the zip are all that important.

BPATT'sMom:  No, your son probably was told that he can come home after A School and work in the recruiters office.  They cannot work with the recruiter before A School....and they cannot come home before A School either (unless they were in a PIR group that graduated during Christmas break).  They accumulate Leave days while at bootcamp and in A School and then they can use some of them after A School.  For every day they work with the recruiter, they get to keep that day of Leave to use later.  So it behooves them to try and work with the recruiter if they can and save up their Leave days!

MomThatLovesHerSon,

The form letter can take up to three weeks to receive (it took mine 16 days). It usually arrives within a week after you get the "kid in a box", if it doesn't it can be because they are in the last division of a TG (training group) and are waiting for it to fill. They are usually not sent until the division is moved to their ship for training, if on hold they are housed in a different ship (USS Pearl Harbor), and nope you can't send mail to that one.

Hang in there!

BPATT'sMom, no I did not get a call this morning.  Maybe that means my son is not in div 205.  Thanks for your encouragement.  Maybe today the letter will come!

chrissmom, I also have not received my letter.  My son got to boot camp on 4/2/13. I got the box this past Tue.  Maybe we will get our letters today!!

Comment by BPATT'sMom205 on April 13, 2013 at 12:17pm

chrissmom- my son told me they were getting ready and they were told they were going to "make their first phone call." Ran over a mile to get to the phone banks--so at least everyone in 09 205 got to make calls today. I guess it's really cold there.

LJK- precious surprise, wasn't it? I held it together until I got off the phone... been weepy ever since!
