Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Just wondering if anyone got that all important call yet to let them know that their SR is now a SAILOR ; )
I haven't heard from my son in aprox 3 weeks now except for his letters : (
Getting nervous !!!!

I rented a car and opted for the extra insurance. I can't find my paperwork, but I think it was around $12 or $15 a day. I rented the vehicle for 2 days. I'm from Southern California and there was snow all over the place at Great Lakes, but it did not snow while I was there. The roads were kept very clear of snow. Still, I was nervous about black ice and I didn't know about how the other drivers would be over there. I wanted the peace of mind.

Also, I opted to leave the rental car at the hotel and take the shuttle which brought us right up to the entry gate and we only had to walk a short distance to get inside the graduation hall. I also thought my Sailor daughter would appreciate a few minutes to wind down at the hotel before we headed out to get something to eat.

Comment by ellen0502 on May 23, 2013 at 12:22am: MomThatLovesHerSon, The rental agreement from the company and your personal auto insurance card is enough. We picked up the extra basic insurance from the rental company for just a few extra dollars a day because well...it is Chicago. :)

The gate pass tells us to be sure to have:

1) driver's license

2) vehicle registration (if you have a rental car, the rental contract)

3) proof of insurance

Question - For a rental car, what would be the proof of insurance?
