~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

We will definitely be going to the airport with him to wait, as he will most likely only get the one day PIR before leaving for Pensacola, Booked an extra night at the hotel to catch up on sleep before heading back.
I think letting him pick out his own watch is probably the way we'll have to go!
What I have read in the past is that some families were turned away at the USO (not sure if Midway or OHare but maybe Midway is smaller). One lady said the person there was very rude to them as she told them they couldn't go in. That surprised me because the USO is usually very accommodating. Hopefully, many families will be able to visit with sailors in there.
Good morning everyone :) Dianne, that was a great story. After almost 3 years I still tear up when reading stuff like that lol.
MomThatLoves... the USO at O'hare was not that small. There were lots of families in their with their Sailors and lots of other families in there looking for their Sailors when I was there looking for my daughter.
michelek: I believe that he should have access to his funds. My son also joined Navy Fed when up there. I assume that my son received his debit card up there as it never came home when he was at bootcamp. If they have their debit cards, they should be able to pay for the pictures.
Have you considered shopping with your sailor after PIR to find that watch? I know it would be nice to make sure he gets the one he would like, and he can't really check that out while in bootcamp. Might be better to wait...maybe wrap up a box with a note in it: New Watch for You! Your Choice (within my budget! :-) ).
MomThatLoveHerSon: Most would not have heard from their SRs on Mothers Day. Too many SRs there to all make calls home that day (over 5.000).
Good Morning!
Ladies,
Lemonelephant taught me that Rating is the sailor's job. How I remember that is job is 3 letters and rating is 6, which is a mathematical relationship.
Rate is their pay rate: E-1, E-2, etc...
Michelek,
You can save the watch for a birthday gift/Christmas combo thing. I really think your presence at the PIR is the best present for your SR!! Our airfare, hotel, and car rental ran us $1,200! I gave my Sailor daughter a Challenge Coin, then brought all kinds of treats for her. She told us on the "I'm a Sailor" call that she wanted dark chocolate covered almonds, so I ran out to Trader Joe's to get those and we brought them in the carry on tote bag I had with me. I also found her a fresh fruit smoothie place for her because that's what she wanted the most foodwise. She also wanted her eyebrows done, so we used my other daughter's cell phone to find a place. Everything we did was for her and just the spending the time together was most important. I hope you plan on meeting your son at the airport because that will be another precious time that you can spend with him. I can't understand families that would rather sleep than spend all the time that they can with their Sailors!! We took naps after my daughter went back to RTC, then went out to Midway and met her there about 1:50 am on Saturday and stayed until she boarded at 10:30 am. We then came back to our hotel, got a late check out, napped again, then finally left Chicago about 6:30 pm.
If you haven't had the chance, please check out my "Pertinent PIR Tips" for what happens at the airport and other stuff above!
Hi Clint's mom! Are you going to Sarge's Meet and Greet? I think I will. I hope to meet you there! My son's 1st choice for rate is Electronics Mate. What is your son's 1st choice for rate?
diannep .. if my SR has joined the navy credit union while at RTC will he have access to his funds? I told him to have his pics sent home to save liberty time but didn't think to ask him if he could pay for them!!
I have already received the challenge coin for PIR which I great! but was thinking about also getting a watch for my SR. Does anyone know what a popular work watch is for these guys? he's AIRR and I have heard they like the g shock frogman but 350$ is not in the budget right now. Anyone have any ideas?
