Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by Momof9 on April 28, 2015 at 1:04am: Having one of those days. You know the "miss them so much, but so proud, but still want to cry days". I had my hopes up that he might call this passed weekend. I wanted so badly to tell him how well his brothers had done in their competition. I keep hearing how bad the IT is and feel so bad for him because he is one of those boys that toes the line. He learns the rules and does not want to break a single one. I know it must be hard for him to be doing his best and still feeling the consequences of being in a group. I know it will shape and mold him to be the man he must be. It just makes a momma's heart sad. I just wish he had enough time to write about how he is doing. I just want to see a piece of paper that says he is okay and that he will be fine. Just miss him. And then I think how I need to put those feelings all aside and concentrate on ways to encourage him. Things like; what can I do differently to his letters to brighten his day? What can I write that would make him smile? Is there a special picture I could include that would ease the homesickness? Oh the thoughts of a bootcamp mom. Sorry for prattling on.

My second call, after the I am here call, came on Thursday at about 2:30 MST, and then I was pleasantly surprised on another Thursday just before BS. Mind you I only had four calls during BC, the I am here, I am still alive, hello I got an extra call, and the "I am a Sailor" call. The only call I had that lasted more than a couple of minutes was the "I am a Sailor" call.

Calls can come on any day of the week at any time (8 am-8pm) Chicago time.

The first "random" call I got was on Thursday and completely took me by surprise. I was in the check out lane at the grocery store getting checked out when my phone rang. I looked at my phone saw the 847 area code, freaked out, ran out stating "I am sorry, but I have to take this call." I ran out of the store leaving several standing behind me looking disgruntled, and saying what I am sure were obscene things that shouldn't be repeated here etc. Didn't care, I was not missing this call.

When I came back, after less than three minutes, I apologized and explained I hadn't heard from my son in five weeks because he was in Navy BC, and I couldn't ignore the call.

Needless to say, everyone behind me took no offense to my leaving after the explanation. All thanked me for my sons service, and I just stood there and cried as I finished checking out, went home, and cried more.

Calls can come at any time, be prepared!!!
