N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Too funny, Island Mom.  But so true....2nd fiddle is what we are when we have boys and a girl enters their lives!  Of course, that is the way it is supposed to be, but it is hard for us moms.  However, "mom" always has a special place in a man's heart so claim that!  :-)

Momof9:  You can use division numbers and initials plus hometowns of the SRs on here to try and find others  on here who have SRs who are friends with yours.  Write your SR and ask first/last names of his/her friends and hometowns.  You can then post that info on here and ask a family member to friend request you if that is their SR!  Once friends, you can share privately as much as you want.

Just keep in mind that sadly, only about 10-15 percent of the SRs in a PIR group are represented on this site.  But sometimes, there are matches here so give it a try!

Good Morning All !  Have a great weekend!

Is there a way to ask if there are moms of your SRs friends on the site that doesn't compromise security? Was curious if they were on here but didn't know if using last names would be a no no.Thanks for any help.

Btw, his girlfriends mail came to me, guess he didn't think to get her address...she got 4 thick letters... Geez, they've been dating for 6 months. Guess I better get used to being 2nd fiddle! That stinks! I don't want to be 2nd, my mom was always first to my brothers...what the heck?

Aloha Jesse and Becki! I got my first 2 letters on Wednesday, he sounds better in his letter. He wrote another letter after we talked last Saturday. I guess it takes a lot longer to get mail to Hawaii. My coworkers all sent letters to those who aren't getting mail, about 13 total. I pray it gets to them okay. I will bring extra leis for those kids as well. I hope to get to meet your kids!

Thanks for sharing that, antsmom.....was laughing at the SR part.....and tears for the last part....what a difference you are making in the lives of those children!  God Bless You!

I am a teacher and I teach reading intervention to 4th, 5th, & 6th graders... I had all of my students write letters to SR's who are not getting any mail... WHY oh WHY didn't I just call them NAVY Recruits to my classes instead of Seamen Recruits??? I had a class full of giggling 5th and 6th kids ...my 4th graders didn't have a clue... Well now all my classes are calling them SR :) We are hoping that some of them write back... Too bad it is so close to the end of the school year... Some of my students' letters were so touching telling them to keep their heads up, never give up, and thanking them for their service... :) One of my students said that the only reason he wants to be a good reader is to join the Marines like his two big brothers ... This made me tear up because he has such a bad home life that he feels this is his only way out... Thanks for listening to me :)
