OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Welcome to the Division Discussion for Divisions 219 and 220
These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.
Get to know each other, your SRs are!
Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions, and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.

I just enjoyed a 15 minute phone call with my SR. He said he earned the call because of a test score. I wanted to share with the training group that he said tomorrow is training day 3-1 and they'll be getting their official navy haircut "high and tight." It'll be shaved on the sides and higher on top... Not the buzz cut they first got. Then they will be taking pictures on Thursday. They got their dress blues yesterday and I don't think he is too crazy of the high waisted blue pants with all of the buttons! The Nukes will be meeting with someone on Thursday to state their preference of Nuke ratings. He knows nothing about travel plans to A school and expects to find out that info during the last week of BC. Overall, he sounded great and the division seems to be doing better. He thought they were all sick in the beginning because of the various shots and pills they were given. He said most recruits are fine now.

Well, this will be my first entry, though I read yours each night. Guess I'm feeling pretty low. My son is in Ship 13 Div 219. He's our youngest of 4. I also have a Marine (joined last September), and 2 daughters. When my SR left, we became empty nesters. Our oldest daughter gets married on June 8...and I guess you can pretty well figure out who won't be able to come. Breaks my heart, and I know as time draws closer to graduation, the reality will sink in with him and he will be pretty down about it--even though we try to play it down. At this point, because of the wedding (in south TX) we likely will not be able to come to graduation and we are feeling so bad about it. Luckily, his uncle plans to come to support him. I am SO proud of my SR, and I miss him so much! Only got the one call a couple of Saturdays ago...and he DID sound wonderful. No letters, though he should have a bunch when he starts getting them. Does anyone know if they've started to get their letters yet? Also, I'm confused as to which week/day we are on...I thought we were week 4, but saw something a night or so back about week 3.

Matt's mom - They had more processing days than "normal" and those days don't count as training days. My Sr told me that yesterday was training day 3-1 (week 3, day 1). They have six weeks of training days (five days each "week") before PIR. They have received letters and have been allowed to mail out letters. My SR told me that he mailed one to me this past Monday, but I have not yet received it. I'm glad that your SR will have his uncle there to support him, but know that other families are willing to "adopt a sailor" for the day if he has no one able to attend. What a very tough situation you have with the PIR and the wedding the same weekend! Hopefully, you'll be able to visit him in A school soon after PIR. Hang in there!

I just got a letter from my SR today...in fact, two of his sisters did as well! Apparently Monday, he had all 4 of his wisdom teeth pulled so is on light duty this week. So Janet, if they are only on week 3-1 will this delay PIR? Did the bad weather at the beginning cause the delay? I know when he called a couple of weeks ago, they spent an unsual amount of time learning how to care for their clothes, etc.

PIR is schedueld for June 7 and that's when it'll be. If a SR fails a test, he may be delayed, but the TG will PIR on June 7. Some divisions finish the last test (Battlestations) as much as a week before PIR. Our TG may not finish until the Wednesday before PIR. They will finish and they will GRADUATE! I really doubt the weather affects the training days, but the ability to fill a division does. If they took a few more days than normal to fill their division, that would have forced them to have more processing days in the beginning. They are doing well now and have plenty time to accomplish all tasks!

We got letters today! Finally! He apolorgized over and over in two letters about his inabilty to write but they are in a hall of fame division and their RDC wants a full focus. They won't get much time to write. Letters are withheld and minutes for calls are withheld if they get in trouble. It is, of course, all part of giving them disciple and the group understands this. They won an academic award and will now carry and academic flag. Janet hinted at this :) It sounds like the group is working well together and I am sure this will only get better. He shared so many stories about inspections and his own transformation through this process and I can hear his tone and I know he and the group are doing well and learning so much about teamwork. Be proud, moms. We are almost to PIR and giant hugs!

Heather, is your recruit in 219 or 220? That is great to hear about how good they are doing! My son sounded great in his letters that we recieved yesturday....despite having 4 wisdom teeth removed this past Monday!- LOL

My son is in Div 219. What is a "hall of fame" division? Probably a stupid question, but I am clueless! This is all so new to me!
