~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

USNwife/momMary:

This is the info about rate vs rank.

Comment by ellen0502 on June 2, 2014 at 1:39pm

Rate=Pay Grade

Rating=Job

Rank is used for commissioned officers.

Comment by CatMom509 on June 2, 2014 at 12:31pm

Jacob94Mom,

That is something up to your comfort level about whether to put first or last name.  Their rating (job) could be the new higher one!

I heard we should get the "I am a sailor" call on the 5th!!!

Comment by MaryNavywife/mom on June 2, 2014 at 10:36am

Pay grade/rank  is the E1, E2 etc part

Their job is their rate   I have read several different places where people have said only officers have rank, but this is not true.  My husband has been in the Navy for over 21 years and he said he has never heard anyone say only officers have rank.

Good morning! I am curious too Marisol how you know he passed- I am biting my nails waiting for his Wednesday letter.

CatMom: are we allowed to put last names on our door decorations then? I put his first, but can easily change it. What about their new rate? He went in as an E-3 (had JRROTC) he wiLL be AECF ET so will he be Seaman or Firman?

Oh my gosh! We are getting close and so much to do!!!

Marisol:

Here is a link that will be helpful to you as far as the pay rates:

Congrats, Marisol!  That is wonderful!

Hotel door decorating is totally up to you, if you want to do it.  Check with your hotel to find out what they allow you to put on the doors.  Some have said that their new sailors would not like this kind of attention, others have said that theirs would love it....so keep that in mind!

Good Morning All !

Comment by CatMom509 on June 2, 2014 at 2:57am

Marisol,

E-1, E-2, and E-3 are their pay rates.

Congrats on your son passing the PFA~~

The door decorating just shows your pride of your Sailor's Boot Camp graduation.  It could just be a poster board with Navy emblems and the ship number, division number, and up to you, maybe your Sailor's last name on it.  You attach it to your hotel room door.  This is totally optional and is not necessary, plus if you want it as a souvenir, you will have to roll it up (if you don't want to fold it) to take it home with you.
