OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I think the only reason my son got a letter so soon is because I got a call on 4/19. While I was getting a pen to write down the email address I needed to send information to he was able to tell me his PIR was 6/13 and he was in a 900 div. I used this site to figure out that was 931 and all 900 divisions are in ship 2. I called his recruiter, who confirmed that, so I took a chance and mailed one letter. Please know she doesn't think you abandoned her!!!

I have noticed in some of the comments that SR's had said in phone calls that they had "received mail"----I"m feeling TERRIBLE...I just got the form letter Friday and know that she has not and will not receive my letters for some time based on comments about processing and mail time.  How did others get letters headed to the SR so fast.  Hope it isn't making her sad......missing her and don't want her to think no one is writing....

Anchorsaway-How awesome! Your story made me cry. Glad you were strong for her! I'm sure it helped her more than you can know.

Do we have to sign up for it for Sarge's MeetandGreet or do we just show up? Also, do you know what time it starts?
