Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I just ordered the coin.  They said it would be here by May 30.  I sure hope they are right.  We leave on June 4 to travel north.  I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I'm the sister from auhi00's post. I haven't gotten anything for me since my brother has been gone and this time I got a letter specifically addressed to me. I have to say, that was one of the best things I could ever ask for. I had been feeling kind of alone in this whole process because the calls go to Mom and the first two pieces of mail that we got were for her. I have to say that I'm really excited to get this letter and cannot wait to hug the sh*t out of him right back!

Got two letters today from my SR. One for me and one for his sister. So exciting. They were from may 13 and 16. He said he was doing very well and got to talk to some petty officers that were in his rate. AD They told him more details about it which apparently made him happier he chose it. He said he couldn't wait to see us and will hug the sh*t out of us when we come for grad. That's my boy.

I actually think he is on this site..maybe his name is Craig? Anyway, he doesn't charge shipping and the total was $18.95. I ordered mine on May 13th and it came pretty quickly. It is really nice!!

Good morning Ladies!! We were finally able to find a flight that will get us to Chicago in time for PIR.  We're hoping the rental will be ready for us on time as well.  We ended up having to drive 4 1/2 hrs from our house to an airport that has a flight that's suppose to get us there in time.  After a couple of weeks of trying to find a way it's finally turned around and my son will have family there.  Thanks for the prayers and really looking forward to every minute we'll have with him!

Irene - see what others did, but I called USAA, our car insurance provider.  They changed my SR's status to "away at college without a car" so that he is still covered if he drives someone else's car and all.  It's what they recommended.  It was advised to us not to pull him off medical until he graduates boot camp for the "just in case" issue of if he doesn't graduate.  He is covered under military insurance while in boot camp, though.
