Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

cbutler that is exactly how I felt when my daughter left. Hang in there it will get a little easier at the same time you will get a lot stronger :) It's that combination that allows us to survive :)

willsmom sending a card should not get him any extra attention. Most recruits will get several cards. Just make sure they are not musical, recordable, or have glitter on them that can flake off and get on the uniforms and you should be fine. Also not a good idea to put stickers or drawings on the envelope. :)

I have a question. If I send my SR a card that is OBViOUSLY a card (gray envelope) will he get "special attention"? It doesn't require extra postage but it is obvious. It's not large, just too wide for a regular envelope. Seems like a silly thing but he seems to be having a hard enough time.

This is my first time communicating as a Navy mom. I have to say over the last few days this has been my life line to my son. I was strong , brave and very proud with him leaving, receiving the first call that he made it and that a box was coming from him and I was still staying strong. Then, I got the call on Saturday and I became mush after I hung up with him. He was tired and said it was hard but he seemed to be hanging in. My husband got me connected with this website and I have to say I am feeling much better. My mind knows this is the best thing for him, however my heart strings are being pulled. Growing pains at this stage of my life is not fun. So, thank you for all your postings. Ship 14 Div 224, anyone else?

Everyone should read this story. A recruit at boot camp saved a sailor's life! How awesome is that? It would be amazing to be able to find his family in one of our PIR groups :) A Great BIG Bravo Zulu to him for a job well done!!!

Hi Everybody!
Southwest Airlines is having a great sale right now. Do this on the WEB, don't call them because you get better deals there. With Southwest, there is no fee for changing your flights. However, if you change your flight and the fares go up in the meantime, you will be charged the difference. I just re-booked my flights online because the fares actually went DOWN, so I saved $50! And your first (maybe second, I am not sure) piece of checked luggage is free. I am flying into Midway.
