~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

No problem, JJ4Navy! We N4Moms veterans are on here to answer questions any time! :-)
EvansMom: The call from bootcamp may say "pay phone". Sometimes not. Look for the 847 area code. BUT also, answer any calls during this time because sometimes they will call from another phone that has a different Chicago area code. Just get rid of the solicitors fast! :-)
oneproudmom: Did you receive the form letter or did you get your info from the recruiter? The form letter should have some hotel info enclosed with it. If not, you can google Great Lakes hotels. That is what I did and we ended up at the Residence for my son's bootcamp. Great hotel. It is close to the Courtyard and Springhill Suites, all good hotels....each with PIR shuttle service. It is also close to Sarge's MeetandGreet which is held the night before PIR.
If you plan to fly, check out Southwest Airlines to Chicago-Midway or Milwaukee. Milwaukee is 45 minutes away, little traffic, cheaper car rental and flights usually. Midway is an hour+ away, more traffic, etc. However, if your sailor will be flying out for A School, they will fly out of the Chicago airports. You will be allowed to visit with them there. Southwest has no change fee if you have to change because your sailor is delayed for any reason, and 2 bags check for free.
We also used our AAA discount when we stayed at Residence.
oneproudmom if you scroll back to diannep response to me about 6 hrs ago, she gave some great info on what your asking! I'm trying to figure it all out myself as well!
Diannep thanks again for the wealth of information! I hope I'm not wearing you out! Thanks to all the others for posting what they have booked & other info....especially to watch out for area code 847! It's so hard to be patient waiting for a call especially since some have called from ship14 div223! I just need to hear his voice!!!
Evan'sMom, on my cell phone the area code that came up was (847)
Oneproudmom Congrats!!!! My son is not in that division, but I did make Hotel reservations at the Courtyard Marriott which is only 3.8 miles away from the Naval base.
Hope this helps
Okay, I found out that my SR ceremony is 6/14/13. He is on Ship 09 Div 227. Does anyone's SR have that ship and div? I am confused about how to go about making reservations. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
When/If you get a call from boot camp, what shows up on your caller id?
Hello Ladies, I booked my hotel at the Courtyard by Marriott, really good price.. so if any wants to inquire......they do not have a cancellation feel or change the date fee either... which is good....Have not booked my air fare yet just waiting a little bit longer for that from the looks the prices are not that bad either...oh and car rental was cheap as well.
Hi Betsy, I know what you mean. I'll be walking around the grocery store and just start crying, especially when I see something I would normally have purchased for him. It will get better - I keep telling myself that. I haven't received a call for chatting yet, just one for getting more info. My SR left 4/17. I've stayed home all this morning in the hopes that he might call. But, I guess I should get moving and do my errands. Have a good day.
