~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hey, there are boats sailing in the Weather widget! Never noticed that. There will be fireworks tonight on it :-)
Hello Everyone!
Thank you for the information. I did call Southwest last week because I had read the same thing about the no charge and the lady told me she said they did not have a policy for that and it each situation was different.
LeeAnn: Make sure you check Southwest Airlines for your flights...into Chicago-Midway or Milwaukee. Milwaukee is a little closer, less traffic, may be cheaper, in both flights and car rental. Southwest will not charge a change fee if your SR is delayed in training for any reason....and 2 bags can be checked for free. Also, someone recently who booked with them said they provided a coupon that saved them alot of money on car rental.
YAY!!! I got my form letter from my son yesterday. Was so excited to receive it and find out that my son...like others on here....is SHIP 03 DIVISION 222. I have already made my room reservation at the Navy Lodge and looking at plane tickets. I was really surprised I was able to get a room at the Lodge. I was afraid they would have been gone by now.
Yes, they get to update the guest lists a week or two before PIR. Be sure to be writing them with the exact name that appears on the guests' IDs so he/she can list them appropriately.
WOW - am so excited. I just received the form letter and ran to the post office to drop my letters off. My SR is in PIR 6/14. Just made my day!
Did have a question, are the SR able to update the graduation attendee list? It seems we may have a difference of opinon. 6 month girlfried over grandparent. She is absolutely important, but will need to discuss with him. :-)
Thanks diannep! That little bit of info helps to not be so anxious. My sons 2 wk mark will be Monday. Can't wait until next week. I am so excited to receive a letter from him!
Ladies, just a "heads up" that they cannot write to you for the first 2 weeks of Bootcamp (other than the graduation Form Letter). They have to train the Recruit Mail Petty Officer first. Once he/she is trained, the mail delivery can start. It is very possible that you are mailing letters already, but when you get your first letter from your SR, he/she will ask why you haven't written? Just know that your letters were probably received after he/she wrote that letter! They then get mail M-F.
Awww, thanks for the kind words, Lala! I was such a "newbie" at mentoring when your daughter went through. Had only been doing it for a couple of months! YIKES! Glad I could help, and more glad that YOU are part of our "team" now since you are a huge help! :-)
