For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC, OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the timeto read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture.

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on May 30, 2012 at 8:02am: I would say yes they can, if he is wearing the watch or religious symbol it shouldn't be a problem. I know several moms who have given these as gifts and several Sailors who have bought watches at the mall on PIR day and worn them back. Believe me your Sailor will know if it is okay to have these items. Our Sailor went back to base with a new watch and it was fine. You will see other Sailors wearing watches and the crucifix you can't see because it is under their clothes. No one said anything about her new watch at all. She already had the crucifix when she went to boot camp and had worn it almost the whole time she was there. Your Sailor will be the best one to ask if they can have that item. I know they would have to wear it and can't take the bag or box back with them.

You will have to make the exchange at the airport or hold on to it and send it to them at "A" school. It's in the Family Guide: http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/fam_guide.asp

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on May 29, 2012 at 10:16pm: Not sure where you saw it PaulaP, The only things I can think of they can take back is a gift card or money (those fit in their wallet) a religious symbol on a chain like a crucifix but it must be smaller than their dog tags and silver in color. A watch also silver in color, black, or a combination of silver and black, maybe a challenge coin, not sure about those being allowed back at boot camp base. maybe FTLW or Diannep knows of some others.
