Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture.

Comment by diannep on May 24, 2012 at 8:16am: Well, actually, Lala, they don't necessarily get kicked out if getting a DUI. But they are put into a program with the Navy for alcohol issues. They are closely monitored and there is a "no tolerance" policy while in this program, so many may eventually be discharged. But they do try to work with them initially. My son knew some at his Command in this program. They DO have a zero tolerance for drugs however. They are not tolerated at all.

My son got a couple of speeding tickets shortly after reporting to his duty station...he got "the lecture" from the Navy about being irresponsible like that. Finally got his act together...but chi-ching on his insurance rate then! Being a FL resident living out of state, FL does not allow any dismissal of tickets (i.e., driving school, attorneys) that were issued outside of FL. You have to take the points. Hard and painful for lesson for him...but he learned!

My son and step-daughter graduate this Saturday and my Sailor is coming home tomorrow for graduation :-) I won't be on here as much as normal over the next couple days but I will check in as much as I can and be checking my emails. Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on May 23, 2012 at 9:48pm: Juliebelle- I asked my Sailor about getting in trouble if someone else driving gets a ticket. She said it depends on the circumstances. If alcohol is involved in any way then yes you would be in trouble even if you were not drinking. Any time there is a contact with law enforcement for any reason they have to report it to their command. If a Sailor gets a DUI or DWI they get kicked out of the Navy. They have a zero tolerance for drinking and driving and offer a (she thinks free) cab ride home or back to barracks if they cannot or should not be driving. Now if their parents got a speeding or parking ticket she doesn't think the Sailor would get in trouble but they still have to report it to command. Not something any Sailor wants to do.
