Yeah I need to start looking myself Lars. My SR however said, he wanted to lay by the pool and relax; so I had to switch hotels! :-)
I understand there is a six flags around and of course the big city of Chicago. The Windy City. I guess I need to start my research too... but from all I've read, was.. don't be surprised if he just wants to go to the hotel room and sleep. Know that that will be just OKee Dokee!!
Dianne - Garrett was up for 66 hours before he got to sleep! And he survived! I can't imagine a mom not getting a box, or a form letter, or a real letter or a call. That is just sad to think about. I was talkign to someone earlier..........what did they do in the 40's when my dad was in bootcamp and there were NO cell phones..........I can not imagine! Mine has been glued to my hip, chin, elbow, and knees for five weeks now!!
2fast4u: Glad to have you drop in. If your daughter is leaving for bootcamp in October, you can count forward about 8 weeks and know about when she will PIR. However, since she will have the Thanksgiving holidays in there, she may be there a little longer. You won't find out her actual PIR date until you receive the form letter from her after she arrives. Sounds like it should be in December sometime, unless she leaves very late in October...in that case, it could be January.
That is correct Samantha. They may have to move their stuff across the street to a different base but after they are done you can pick them up, then pick them up on Saturday and again on Sunday. They may also have watch for a few hours over the weekend that you will have to work around but someone who doesn't have family visiting usually volunteers to do the watch.
Hello PIR Group, just join and trying to get into the swing of things. I'm 2fast4u, administrative secretary in Georgia at a wonderful university. My daughter will be leaving for boot camp on Oct 1. I am very happy that she told me about the website, N4Ms, and I have been getting involved trying to learn all I can, because I will be going on an adventure along with her. I would love to go physcially, but unfortunately, I will have stay behind in GA:-(. I'll see everything through her eyes. Hey, I do have a question: how can I find out about the PIR date for those leaving for Oct 1? Hey, glad to be apart of this group and proud of my little sailor for making me a Navy Mom! Whoooo Hooo! Looking forward to hearing from anyone!
Yes Jamie, I wish more info was told to the recruits but hopefully all of us on N4Ms can help get the word out! I could not have imagined going through the 8 weeks of RTC without this resource. It should also be something everyone is told about. :)
Star: YEP! You have learned well! They are having so many orders "barked" at them when they are preparing that box...we have had many laughs over the years with posts from ladies telling us what showed up in the boxes. The sad posts are from those few ladies who never got a box...their SRs didn't take cells and apparently "donated" their clothes (they have that option, or can even throw them away)...so no box came back home. Also, when the SRs first arrive, they are up for a very long time! Usually close to 40 hours. It is a very hectic time in the beginning, but it does finally settle down.
Jaime. Good idea. Some of the sailors are even told at RTC that their families cannot meet them at the airport, so that confuses them. It is not true...they are definitely allowed to meet the sailors at the airport!
I added a discussion above about my experience at PIR 5/4/12. Hope you find it helpful! Good luck to you all!
Oh Ellen, like Paula said... most of us are on here too. I come on at night though, because it is too difficult to access on my cell phone. Facebook is just sooooooooo much easier. Wished this was there. And on facebook we have more 'real time' fun! :-)
