It is a good idea to scan pictures, collage-style, on a page or the back of your letter to send.  Saves your SR space and keeps the envelope from being so thick.

TechiTunes - Yup, they haven't earned the right to be called Sailors yet! You nailed it too...we have an important job also...as support and inspiration! TY! :-)

cyndyj - You "nailed" it! I am an only child...not a great growing up either...so the idea of "team"...so foreign to me! Hubby has three brothers but really one that he was closer too...but two is a "team" . In cahoots or just doing life!

It has taken me THIS long to finally start understadcing it better...usually when thigns are not going well...that TEAM is so important for Marriage and Familytoo! We have three boys and all are VERY different from each other...I am the token Female!

We may develop individually...but should compliment each other into a cohesive team. We may have to act on an individual basis for some things...but we are not designed to be alone.

You're right too...they are surprised at what they are capable of!

Comment by cyndyj on May 5, 2012 at 6:11pm

As I read over some of the comments I realize that there can be some tough days, with that said I think that is why they become such "brothers" ( i include the ladies), they have each others backs, they support each other as it doesn't just effect one but all, and they are a force to reckon with. They take these young men and women and help them become the strongest they can be, I think the men and women may be surprised at what they are capable of. I also think that there are places that we are a part of, like our work/job that could have some of the 'brother" mentality versus the 'me" one. Its obvious that the Navy is doing something right.

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on May 5, 2012 at 5:56pm

PaulaP - I bet he was frustrated...he got a good strong dose of "hurry up and wait". They don't get to physically train until they are out of P days either. So I bet the boredom...mixed with excitement, antipcipation and then hustling...and yet being in a "holding pattern" was very frustrating!

When my hubby went to Qatar 11 years ago...they got stuck in Virginia for 6 weeks! They wanted his team to move on...without their gear and weapons! NO WAY! They fought it and it took that long to get it resolved!

Now, it's a nice place to get stuck (it was January)...but not when you could get the order to get moving at any moment. It limits how far you can go and what you can do. Once in a while...they would know that they would not get a call for a few days...usually the weekends I think...so they could travel a bit and sight see. But that is not really the "mode" they were in. They were in Deployment mode...mission mode...so it wasn't always relaxing...and wasn't really what they wanted to be doing. They wanted to get on with it and "get 'er done"!
