Yep, Paula, many times, the entire division will IT if one messes up. When my son was there, he said that they did IT for 2 hours one night...because of one SR's mistake. He said the hard part for that SR was that they would not allow him to do the IT! He had to sit on the floor and watch his shipmates do this for 2 hours. He said the guy was in tears eventually....you can imagine the torture emotionally of watching that. They were all so tired that they hit their racks and were asleep immediately. My son is one who doesn't like to go to bed dirty. I asked if going to bed sweaty bothered him...he said not in the least bit...he was ready to SLEEP! :-)
Paula they would normally not read their letters but they do sometimes look at the pictures they receive to make sure it is not something they are not supposed to have. No naught pics allowed lol. We love the RDC's and they do a fantastic job shaping our young men and women in the strong Sailors they will become.
I agree with PaulaP, you would never want to write anything critical of BC and the process. I write as if they will be read by someone else, I sure wouldn't want them to be called out for it. My son said never to refer to him as Sailor as the RDCs would get very angry. They need our support and inspiration more than anything. They will get through this and make us all proud. 40 days and counting!!! LOL
diannep, I figured it must be something like that as he was only week 1 day 2 when he wrote. Think he was also frustrated because it took so long to get out of P-days for some reason. He's impatient so this experience will fix that problem I'm sure. I guess if one screws up, they IT the entire division until THEY all understand the rules as they apply in the Navy? Will the RDC read his letter? I never write anything but positive things but just was curious. Sometimes I send him pictures and wouldn't want him to be called out for it.
Good Morning everyone :-) I wanted to share something with all of you. I am so happy to have this site to turn to for answers to any question I have about what my Sailor is doing or what is in store for her in the future. This site has been a God send for me. I have enjoyed being a part of so many PIR groups and getting to know all of you a little bit and some of you very well. I have made so many lifelong friends here that I now can't imagine life without. You are all a blessing to me. When we were in VA a couple weeks ago visiting our Sailor we went to the big NEX several times. It is much like a mall and filled with Sailors lol. You know I had to restrain myself from going up and talking to everyone of them and asking if their mom was a member of this site. Especially those who looked so young and you could tell they were still "pretty new" to this adventure. I wanted to hug each one of them and tell them how much we all care about and appreciate them. I am sure you all will feel the same way and will find yourself walking up to someone in uniform and thanking them for their service to our country.
Paula: Yes, you can send a larger envelope, self-addressed and stamped, for your SR to return letters in. Because the envelope will be thick containing this larger envelope, he will have to open the letter in front of the RDCs but it is allowed.
Mine was asmoed for not reporting a fellow shipmate who had "fraternized (talked)" to a girl and got her phone number. They can asmo for the smallest of things...they really want them to realize that rules cannot be broken and they must function as a team, even if it means "turning in" a shipmate. My son was shocked...said he would never "rat" on a friend, especially on something like that! Well, that cost him an extra week in bootcamp. He was told 2 weeks at first, but they let him go back to training after a week. Unfortunately he went in right before Thanksgiving the year he arrived at bootcamp, so already had a "long" bootcamp due to Thanksgiving holidays, Christmas holidays, and New Years holidays. He ended up being at bootcamp for 10.5 weeks! He was more than ready to get out of there!
Good morning all!
to add to what FTLW said, once they pass the PFA they will then do battlestations with an upcoming PIR group and will then go straight to A-school. The good thing is the RDC's and all their fellow recruits will help them work out and will do everything they can to help them pass that final PFA.
Failing their final PFA works a bit differently then an ASMO.
If a Recruit fails their third and Final PFA (the most important...all recruits take all three PFA's...all must pass the final one)...they leave their current Division and go to the FIT Division. There they will be worked with closely to help them pass it (usually it is the run that gets them), before their PIR. Every effort is made to help them pass so they can attend their own PIR.
If they don't, then they stay in FIT until they pass it...they will not go into a new Division.
