When my son called Tuesday, he said that he and a couple of others scored high on their physical test and that was the reason they got to make calls and purchase sweets.  Is it uncommon to pass the test the first time? (I apologize if this is a dumb question.)

Thanks so much, Sunny!!  I will send contacts so she doesn't have to have her picture made in her "BCGs", lol!  Of course I think she's lovely no matter what, but I know she doesn't like glasses.....especially military issue!  And Dianne, she swam competively just during middle school and her freshman/sophomore years in HS.  So long enough to get really good at it, but not super competitive!  She also plays the flute, and rides horses.  Dance, softball.......always active!  I wish I had half as much energy!  And yes, Pianomom....the time has flown by!

I heard that they have another chance to pass their physical test at the 6 week mark. My son is the APO so he is helping everyone.

diannep-He talked about the rescue swimmer position before he left. I think that is what he wants

Pianomom-time dragged at first but, now i think we are just all excited about graduation and have so many wonderful people to talk to it is helping time to pass. They are in their 5th week. unbelieveable!!!

"Assignment Memorandum"  It just means getting setback in recruit training.  There is paperwork to complete and the SR has to sign before this takes place. And...no question is stupid!  :-)

another stupid question, but hey...

what does "asmoed" stand for or mean?

Comment by diannep on May 21, 2011 at 7:32pm

Wow, Donna.  He sounds like a fantastic swimmer!  They need good swimmers in the Navy, for sure!  In addition to his actual Navy rate, he could be selected on a ship to be a rescue swimmer as needed.  I understand that some go overboard at times and need rescuing...I know there was a sailor named Jason who does this on a ship, in addition to his job.  He loves it.  I was a FL swimmer also....but was only 14 at the Olympic Trials in CA in 68, arrived there with an allergic reaction to the iron I was taking, ended up in the emergency room, and bombed in my event.  Seeded 3rd going in (just had to make #2 to make the Olympic team) and finished 16th....BOO!  But it was a wonderful experience!

Comment by diannep on May 21, 2011 at 7:27pm

If they are setback (asmoed) for any reason, they usually call during the weekdays as it is a supervised call from an office.  Calls from your sailors just to visit with you can still come at any time...but official calls affecting them from a Navy point of view usually are doing weekday office hours.
