Neil did PIR June 3rd, then shipped out the next day, to Pensacola. I know very little about what they do until A school starts. They eat well - Pensacola is known to be THE BEST food of all of the Naval Bases. He said they have THE BEST French toast he's ever eaten. They don't work out near as much as he did before boot camp, so he's gaining, rather than losing weight - and he said they have flags out every day to show what the weather is - indicating which uniform they wear. When it's a black flag, they are not allowed to work out outside - too hot. He saw that one one day last week. He does have limited time to use some available computers - and I see him make some comments on Facebook. He also is on duty every third weekend - because there are only 3 of them in the "dorm-style" room, instead of 4. They are on restriction until they pass Phase 1 - and he said they are pickier about the rules in A school than they were in Boot camp - at least so far. Until he passes Phase 1, he's not allowed off the base at all, or allowed other priviliges. Curfew is much later there, too - 10 pm - and lights out at midnight - and they can sleep later - but if they do, they miss breakfast - so he only made that mistake once! I guess getting used to eating is a motivating factor! LOL! I just LOVE that he's so much happier with himself - it's a wonderful thing! Enjoy the PIR - we took video - actually a friend of mine got the best - he was videotaping us as we were trying to find him - and captured me getting the first hug - then with dad - then I took the camera and got him in the video too. Later, as we ate lunch at Uno's in Chicago, we put the tiny tripod on the table and recorded all his stories about "what was the best", "what was the worst", etc - about his experiences - something he will be able to view years from now - a flip camera is SO easy! Even I can do it - and that means it is really easy! Enjoy your time there.
