Hang in there everyone, I know the "down" letters are hard to get past. Things do get a little better each week. Just keep sending them encouraging letters. They can do this and you can too. It seems like a long time but it will go much quicker than anyone ever thought it would. My daughter wrote that she cried herself to sleep the first night and she wanted to come home so bad. But every letter got a little better and by the end of it she was telling people she loved it. They will get better and after the 4th week the RDC's get much nicer and the recruits will even start to like them. Remember what doesn't kill us makes us stronger :-) Think positive, and get those cards and letters going.

pianomom: Ramada, Springhill Suites, Courtyard Inn, and as RWG said, Residence Inn all have shuttle service.  I'm sure there are others as well.  Lala said NavyLodge is so close to the base...1.5 miles...and the drive was easy.  It may be that you can take a regular cab from there too (all of the shuttles are cabs but when they operate as shuttles, it is only $3/pp each way...more expensive when they operate as cabs).  You may want to see if you can talk to someone at Navy Lodge about that.

The Residence Inn in Waukeegan/Gurnee is 4 miles from  the base with shuttle service. $3.00 a person (one way).

ladies--well, i made a reservation at the navy lodge today.  however, i didn't realize that they do NOT have shuttle service.   that's a real bummer, because they have such good rates and extras.  so...i am checking into another place.  any ideas?  i have googled great lakes area and am checking each place to see if they have shuttle service to the base.  thanks for any help you can give.

Got a letter from my son today. He seems happier. His sinus infection has cleared. Said he's getting use to it. It like in the movies yelling, name calling, PT and everything else. But, you learn to take it and keep going. Said he's got some cool people in his division. He's Athletic Petty Officer and Stick position In Formation. Got fitted for their dress uniforms. They will be in summer whites. All in all he's good. I'm a happy and proud Mom.
Proud of all our SR's.
Just wanted to share my letter. God bless and Go Navy

Thank you guys so much.  I know I need to keep encouraging him, and I'm sure it's even harder when you're a mother and your SR is having a hard time. :(  I just want to bust in there and save him... give him hugs and cuddles to help him cheer up a bit.   He says they are 3-4 days behind in letters, so maybe one of the ones he's gotten since Sunday has really cheered him up.  I hope so.  I'm glad that they are at least starting to come together to help each other through hard times though!!

The thing about being in last place is just he keeps waiting for the day they are going to tell him that he has to stay until July 27th...  If he was even second to last, he would feel a lot better. :(

Squeekerz - I hope I can word this where it doesn't sound like a slam, but, remember someone is always last in any group, but they have graduated all the same!  We'll pray for an extra dose of courage & determination for your SR to hang in there and make it through these next few weeks doing whatever it takes to finish well.  And we'll pray for his fellow recruits to do all they can to encourage him as well.  Also, remember if he doesn't make it through on the 1st pass, there are success stories I've seen on this site where recruits have PIR'ed with another division and been very happy in the Navy.  Try to encourage him all you can and tell him you've got confidence in him achieving his goal for the two of you. Hang in there, yourself.  It will be worth the wait!  Take it from someone who's been married for 36 years.

oh, squeekerz--i am so sorry to hear about your fiance.  let's hope that all his brothers and sisters there will be able to encourage him to keep going on till he finishes!!   and if you guys can't get married right after graduation, it won't be very long at all until you can get married. and think how good you both will feel knowing that he has planned for his future and yours too.    :)

NOooooooo.  I got a letter from my fiance today. :(  He hasn't been doing well at all.  He's still last in his division... and this last week he has been very mentally unstable.  He has just wanted to come home. :( :(  He also apparently has had to go to medical a few times, but he didn't say what for.   He says the boots are really awful to be in all the time.  He has a few friends now though, and they have convince him to stay, but he is really negative about everything.  He has already said he'll be held back, he just knows it  He says there are already quite a few that have been held back.  He's just waiting to be told he will be.

D:  I feel so bad for him!  Secretly I have wanted to write to him telling him to quit and come home because I'm selfish and want him here... hearing that he's in so much misery is making me really want to tell him to even more... Ugh...  it's so hard...  I'll keep encouraging him anyway, but his unhappiness makes me want to see him so much...  and he said we can't get married during graduation liberty.  I am really unhappy now....

Yeah for communication girls...!!  whoopee!

If I'm not mistaken. I think they have 3 weeks from the first PT test to work up to passing. My son said he has passed it on the first try but said they have 3 more weeks to get it passed. So I'm sure now that they had the first run at it, they will know more of what it takes and how hard they have to push to get passed.

*wow, you feel bad thinking their sick, but on the other hand hearing there are so many sick, is kinda helpful, knowing they are not alone and the Navy is on the job helping them.

*Donna,,Yeehaa for your special delivery, and special notice !  that's just cool..~

*KC that is pretty neat to have the band at your house. You still get to be that special influence on those boys. I have found that many that age don't know what a peaceful loving home looks like, and we may be the only thing they have to see and model their lives after when they have a home.

*Angel: adding prayers to yours! Comfort, strength n Success in Jesus Name
