I just got my first phone call from my son yesterday.  He said things are getting better and he's doing okay.  He had been sick but is feeling much better.  He misses home but he's glad he joined the Navy.  We were able to do a conference call between him, his girlfriend and myself.  Golly, I miss him!

Cayster--that is so cool about ship 11, div 203 (which our son is part of)!  we will keep praying that God will keep all this sickness and injury to a minimum.

Donna46--that is SCAREY that only 10 out of 80 passed their physical test.  your son's div and my son's div will be doing battlestations together....and he didn't call home to say he passed it, so....

Great news ladies. Thanks for sharing. My son has a sinus infection. They gave meds. He's very homesick and cried on the phone to his girlfriend. My poor baby. My heart breaks. But, he will be fine. Out of 80 in his division only 10 passed the physical test. He was one of them and he is now the APO (Atheletic Petty Officer) for his division. He will help everyone excel and pass. I'm very proud of my son.
I am proud of all our SR's. God bless them all and I constantly send well wishes and prayes for all of them. Go Navy!!!!

Ship 11, Div 203... This has been a good few days.  First I got 3 letters in one and then yesterday I got a phone call at work.  His second letter had me concerned only cause he was homesick and had been sick (a cold going around).. sleep deprived and around new bugs not a surprise.  However his 3rd letter talked about how his shipmates helped him through the 2nd week.  Truly an extended family is being formed.  He sounded great on the phone very mature, strong...  Very happy!  Which made it easier to except the emptiness we feel at home...It dawned on me he is in the process of becoming a man!  Can't wait to see him....

yes, my son told me that Sunday they can write letters, so monday it's in the mail. So, I can plan on getting a letter every Wed. That's what day my letter came last week. Why does my mail lady come so late in the day??  She comes around 3pm. Can't wait.

ship 09 DIV 208. Got a call today at 2:00PM my time and I'm in Southern California. Got to talk to him for 34 minutes and he sounded really good. This was the first time he was allowed a call. He used a phone card that I had sent him but he did say they give them a card that has $150.00 on it of their money that they can use at the store and he bought a phone card there before he got mine in the mail but he said it was hard to use so he used mine to call. He said he got a bad cold right when he got there but didn't go to sick bay because he didn't want to be put on light duty.  He said when they had to go get their shots he got medicine then and is doing much better.  He has made good friends especially with his bunk mate. He also said that there has been a lot of SR's that end up crying at one point or another but they get through it and that the RDC's do talk them through it. He himself hasn't cried yet but he did say he hit a point where he really just wanted to come home but he said he's doing really well now and that boot camp hasn't been as hard as he thought it would be. He said his division started with around 93 recruits and they are down to 82 but everyone now seems to be doing well. He has received all my letters and he was able to mail his two letters for the first time this last Sunday so I look forward to getting mail soon!
